@ag @ah- who in this age thinks a job is forever? Thats my point, like this didn't come out of left field..there has been a rif every year for more than their 11 years at Verizon. "I never thought it could happen" is naive and irresponsible. I keep all options open so when karma does hit my department im not on this site crying that I can't believe it.
At least the OP is getting a decent severance to ease the pain, im more empathetic to the ones that had under a year.
@ad people like you are what's wrong with the world today. Better watch out for that karma. Your 20 years won't save you. And I hope people are nicer to you when it happens than you are to this poster. Have a blessed day.

@ac I understand contractors in VZI have already been notified 2-3 weeks back, and employees I was also told December but now may be notified before the end of this week!
If you thought this would never happen to you in VZ for thw last 11 years then you're an id--t. This wasnt the first (or last) time a RIF happened. Ive been with the company over 20 years and I worry every October.
