The big question is what are the changes actually going to be?

As far as efficiency I've been most effective when I have clear direction, responsibility and can make my own decisions on the best way to execute. When every decision needs the input from a wide variety of opinionated self interested individuals as well as micromanaged leadership that has to agree.. it slows down everything and makes it difficult to do things.

Employees who came in costume to a serious employee webcast that determined their future and livelihood in the company should be the ones to go first. Like are you that oblivious to the seriousness of the situation that you would come dressed up for Halloween?

Honesty and no spin goes a long way…a refreshing approach compared to Hans, Sam, Sampath etc

I"m a contractor, the sole breadwinner and in a spot that is statistically high risk for cuts. Appreciate the honestly from DS, but QUITE worried. :(

Need to change the business strategy to win the market, not laying off employees who is been putting their so may hours of hard work. e.g. how will IT departments will have direct impact on Market Share? Primary folks they need to replace, who are in Strategy, Pricing, and mainly Poor Marketing who designs lousy campaigns. Look at TMO Tuesday Rewards and Verizon, we are 1000 miles away to win customer's loyalty. Simple things matter to increase NPS. Leaders know all these, but they are not thinking out of the box to come up with innovative ideas to win customers and market share. Unless those old thinking folks are here, removing other small time employees will not get VZ where it wants to be. Why the he-l Hans had to be gone with golden parachute? What did he accomplish? In fact, he should be penalized with his poort performance and fu---d up strategies which lead us where we are today...

It was a no-frills, no sugar coated, rock bottom truth. No cheerleaders, no clapping, no show, no glowing prima-donna's exhibition, no pads in the back or self-congratulatory performance. Most of all the truth and the true statement that we have been continually loosing markets shares in the past 5-7 years, while the competition (mentioned and acknowledged by name) did much better than Verizon. Costs' cutting will be reinvested to promote the new business model and not solely in the network - the takeaway is to sell better what we have and be more efficient with the customers in order to reclaim to be the best. No more price gauging to compensate inefficiency. Good job, Dan!

If you are a director and being shut out of conversations I don’t blame them. Strategy is being decided at the very top and not from within the current ranks. New CEO means new direction and new people going to be brought in and people being forced out. It’s tough but the direction we were moving in was not going to work and now Dan has to fix it. Expect a lot of people and orgs being let go if they don’t fit the new model.

I was confused at first, I got used to the dog and pony show. But to have a leader speak candidly did a lot of me. It will be painful. For everyone that likes working at Verizon - we want to be number one and be successful. It su-ks to know we aren’t but hoping we can turn the ship around and be proud of who we are and what we do again.
For those affected by layoffs I wish you the best of luck in these trying times.

that was the first c-suite call in 15 years of employment that we were talked to like adults and told the obvious that we are already aware of.. I like him...even if I get the ax, at least i can respect him.

@a5- that's when they will have more concrete plans in place, and will unveil some of it. My guess is- that's announcements of reorg, and what we focus on going forward

It feels like the beginning of Gladiator as the leader is prepping the troops, knowing they are going into battle and many won’t come out alive.
