Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Anyone bought a new car lately?

I have been talking to my friends and family and seeing what new cars they have bought recently. Unfortunately, none have bought any new cars from the Big 3. Everyone that I know have bought: Honda, Toyota, Tesla, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan.

Main reasons for them to buy the new vehicles are: Quality & Reliability, style, updated tech, fuel efficiency. Surprisingly, cost was not one of the main reason.

ford a-plan is a joke. I can go buy anything other than the big three for sticker price and its still cheaper than a-plan. For example, comparing the explorer st, to high end toyota grand highlander, or mazda cx-90, or honda pilot. There all cheaper than the explorer and better quality. I know many people that retired from ford that dont buy ford anymore for that reason. My bronco so far has 4 recalls and no fixes for any of them. 1-2 of them are almost one year old since they issued them. Ford is tops in issuing recalls and last in fixing them.

Employee pricing is meaningless. If you deal with a high volume
Dealership you can get a better deal all by yourself.

Younger family members who have access to Ford and GM employee pricing, bought Sarbaru! That's compelling!

@OP

bought my last "new" vehicle in 2007. Wages didn't keep up in the slightest and even A-plan wasn't enough to make it feasible. Used to buy new every 4-5yrs. Last "new to me/used" I bought was 9yrs ago (competitor). Looking for used low mileage vehicles (van and SUV). Will buy a used van, and the 2nd vehicle will not be a Big3 - likely a Honda. Sadly, as much as I'd like to buy brand new not happening with the quality issues of any vehicle and insurance rates.

No matter what you get , you are going to be a proud owner of an over-engineered P.O.S. Now that isn't totally on the the car makers and part of the blame is with the government regulations. Spring for a used one if you can. I have looked at the new cars lately due to having to steer a family member away from making a bad financial choice. I'm not sure what the draw is, but that's coming from someone who enjoys not being in debt and I realize that caring about that is rare these days.

Isn't Toyota the #1 car maker in the world, based on volume?

@ag Ford's CEO is not effective. He often belittles employees and has publicly stated that Ford lacks high-quality workers.

My 20 year old son is looking for a car, he will only consider Honda and Toyota, he says none of the rest are reliable.

Mazdas and Hondas. Absolutely problem free, and reliable as the sunrise.

@bc Nope. I still maintain my engineering integrity and ethics, any proclivity to buy those brands are quality, reliability, and price decisions.

funny, Toyota, Mazda, Honda, etc, stay away from Ford, is it a reflection on your work y’all, and afraid to be layoffed?

I bought Toyota Tundra Hybrid 2025. Ford is no longer leading any first places. Best EV truck is Rivian, Best Hybrid and ICE trucks is RAM 1500 (MotorTrend) Ford lost EV competitions with Model E (sedans) too. Now, its Rivian, Lucid and TESLA top spots.
