Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

The Systematic Devaluation and War on SC Site

Since the moment I joined a multi-site, multi-geo team, there was animosity, resentment, playing favorites, passing over promotions, systematic devaluation of work, and yes, targeted layoffs against SC site workers (in particular US Citizen SC Site workers)...all because of a 5% increase in pay vs Rural Oregon, the company's true HQ. Has your mgr ever suggested you move to Oregon on your own dime? LOL. Every time we had a team f2f there was talk about geo diff and why my home was worth multiples of theirs. Obvious jealousy and Napoleon complex. Anyone experience this? I was always amazed at the great lengths Rural Oregon employees went to defend and protect their farm above all else, much to the detriment of the company.

It's time to revive this thread. Please post examples of the residents of the fake rural oregon headquarters clinging to their farm. You know, the Working from McMenamin's WFM crowd.

Careful @mb+1jmq9ggya, if you keep talking like that, everyone from the farm will start using the bullsh-t term "silicon forest". D-mbest Napoleon Complex term I ever heard from the Bravehearts defending Hillsboro (also known as Rural Oregon).

The irony is without the funding from Bay Area VCs, most of these tech companies would not exist. That’s the reason most startups start out in the Bay and not in Oregon, Washington or even Texas.

Yes, this happened during CPM where SC employees were targeted, in part, because of the income differential and the bulk of the team was in OR. No doubt. Saw it happen to others that were laid off. Easy targets.

@ev Great points. At least Israel is making itself useful to American interests over there lately by setting the region up for the fall of Iran.

Agree. Oregon employees are always jealous of the Bay Area and the Bay Area employees but yet, when things were good and corporate shuttle was in service, they came to Santa Clara every week and stay in Bay Area hotels, eat on intel’s expense. I never understood why the company employed large numbers of non fab employees in Oregon when those employees were flying to the Bay Area and staying in hotels, expensing their travels all the time.

I don’t also get how employees in Israel can transfer back and forth from Israel to different US sites and have Intel pay for their relocation. Some of them do not seem to have unique skill sets. You can easily find the same talent in the local site. Never made sense.

The real estate market in rural is dropping and is about to crater.

Places like Forest Grove and on a longer time scale, Hillsboro, will more or less cease to exist. Beaverton probably not far behind with the slow and irreversible Death of Brand trend for which Nike is a poster child.

And ICE will handle depopulating Aloha.

Weird times.

You're just jealous because Oregon has the fabs and will remain relevant when all the Cali stites are business only and on the chopping block for sure. Most of the people out of Cali that I have seen have only been really good at powerpoints and politics. Not real technical work. Way more engineers in Oregon and way more MBAs in Cali...

The entire company is moving to Texas next year. CA and Oregon are both shitholes of liberal filth.

And the way Oregon outright su-ks. Why does anyone live in that wet, dark, rainy sh-t hole?

Portland metro is a bunch of crunchy, passive granola hippies who are too timid drive, let alone put in the work required to innovate an industry. Pair that with the influx of Indians and Chinese who lost Intel its lead, and one can see that Oregon should just be abandoned to the trees.

Pretty Intel move to choose a lonely backwater. Everyone with a brain at least went to Seattle.

Hillsboro is RURAL OREGON

As expected, they defend their rural farm turf like it's Mel Gibson in Braveheart.

AWS and Google have rural sites in Oregon. Intel does not. Look at a map prior to posting id--tic comments.

People choose Intel SC site mainly for two reasons, as a stepping stone to other Bay Area companies for younger talents and to get a golden parachute for rejects from other Bay Area companies. I have no problem with the former.

@ag Lol right? I would probably be thinking about killin’ myself if I worked at Intel, to be honest. The career has pretty much already committed su----e by virtue of having been there, and in this society, were nothing without a good one of those.

I wish I could say I was surprised to see all the Rural Oregon people rushing in to once again (pathetically) denigrate and devalue the SC Site, it's workers, and the state in general, but I'm not. It simply reinforces OP's premise. They're all jealous and will do anything to protect their little Rural Oregon Farm, leading to little pieces of it sold of to California, one little bit at a time, or better yet, disposed of.

Why does Intel have a presence in Silicon Valley? They barely even make their own silicon anymore. Can’t design competitive products on it.

This company needs to go away. It’s welfare for the over-educated, ego-inflated, has-beens that comprise the majority of Intel’s workforce.

I remember 20 years ago with “CTM North” getting everyone to move on intel’s dime to Oregon

Nobody moved.

It was over for SC when they decided they couldn’t do a 12” wafer fab in CA

Do you remember the 8” wafer days? So very long ago
