Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

Anybody else feels like throwing up?

I'll be doing very little work until this is over. Not because I don't want to or I'm protesting, I just don't think I'll be capable of anything beyond the most basic stuff. It's not just about being laid off. Losing my health insurance with my chronic issues would be devastating for me. This will be a long week.

@ae after you get fired today, you are free to join a company that is already unionized. Maybe be grocery store cashier. Something your nonexistent skill set can handle.

If we are lucky enough to survive this “round” of layoffs and offshoring, we would be silly to not unionize and fight for guaranteed rights. The only way to protect yourself from leaderships incompetence is solidarity on the front lines from the ownership class, I mean the GP’s and executives.

Honestly, I think I am safe for the moment, but I am still jumping every time I receive an email. My thoughts go out to everyone who receives bad news today. I will be quietly but aggressively making a job search, even if I find out I am safe. This is so not what I wanted to do. I wanted to work here until I retired. :(

Every email or teams chat that pops up today makes the ole blood pressure shoot up briefly before reading what it is. So excited to get to do this until tomorrow night (assuming I don't get the invite before that). We are watching the systematic destruction of a once great company in real time. Imagine awkward the wed/thurs meetings are going to be even for the people who make it through C2. I'm sure they will also be dealt a bad hand or begin the process of preparing for Cascade 3 and trying to figure out whenit will be their turn to get the pink slip. Stay humble and hungry out there everyone! Penny's paycheck depends on it!

To add to the complexities and angst of the situation.. I go on call at midnight tonight. Digital/tech blah-blah important blinky-light watcher and un-sc--wer-upper-doer. I'm sure the next person will know what to do if i'm perp-walked! ;)

@a5 you get paid for 60 days. No one said you get to keep working for 60 days.

They gave you six months notice to find closure. They could have just done what most companies do and laid you off without warning.

Never make the mistake of thinking a job is family.

Ted would have never let this happen in the first place.

I took the VSP but I am still sick to my stomach as well, worried about all my friends and coworkers. What they are doing to all of us is HORRIBLE!!!! If Ted Jones was here, he would feel worse about this than any of us. He would be disgusted.

No need to work today. Seriously. They want to do it this way, so just check email every 10 min and Teams every 10 min. I’m not going to do any work other than talk with my team members if they want to ask me questions or vent. I’m here for them while knowing I too might be gone.

The worse is the last minute stuff they are sharing. Friday was you really only get to stay until Sept 5. Not the 60 days the keep promising. Today we are told you can never come back into the office. Nobody got to get their stuff out of the building and more importantly nobody got to say goodbye. This was a family and for those of us that have been here many years it feels like we are being ripped from family without any closure. So extremely sad. Wishing everyone peace and the best for themselves and family!

I'd been doing fairly well until I started weeping over a minor miscommunication yesterday. It wasn't even work related, I just needed to release internalized stress.

I’ve been sick to my stomach all morning. Even though I know there’s a high chance my team is “safe”, I can’t shake the impending doom feeling. Also feeling really sad for friends & colleagues who may get “the call” today or tomorrow. I just can’t imagine.

I actually have a super busy day and cant avoid doing the things I need to do but I definitely feel awful. Can't eat. Once I finally got to sleep last night I was awoken multiple times by the sound of my own heartbeat in a cold sweat. Wishing everyone here the best. Do what you can but take care of yourself.
