Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford is Top-Heavy

I'd be glad to hear oposing view. I am sure most will concur with me on this but I am really curious to hear if anyone has a different view. Ideally, we'd want to hear from older folks or folks who are high up but I also know they tend not to write on this site (even tho I know they are lurking here as I hear them talking about layoffs.com internally when we bring up the subject.) anyhow, chime in.

@hr Yeah I thought the SRD would trim the bloated management but instead it grew. The SRD trimmed all the tech spec LL6 and LL5 under our LL3. Within a month all the positions “trimmed” had new occupants of the FnF variety. Within two months reorg occurred which required a slew of promotions and new hires. Let’s see how right sizing 2025 goes.

When I started, the Salary Roll structure had various levels with salary grades 16 and beyond. The switch to Leadership Levels was 20+ years ago and hasn't changed since. Why? I thought for sure that SRD would reduce the number of levels, but it didn't.

Of the top eight auto manufacturers, six have less than 30, with most under 25. Stellanis and Ford each have over 40.

There are entire departmentS full of only LL6s. Zero reports to any of ‘em. All doing GSR work.

Have I seen mgmt. level employees be ‘laid off’ over the years, yes. But only the good ones who tried to buck the system.

Once ur a LL, and u continue to tow the company line, u have a job for life, even if u su-k at ur job.

Think of it this way, they’ve been in ‘the meetings’ and know too much of the actual inner workings bs to be fired…..and then tell.

Of course above LL5 has ALWAYS been a joke. These people ain’t gonna fire their own kind.

Now ya know.

Yes it is, but most organizations need to be to train and retain talent. You’re not going to keep employees around for 25+ years if there’s no upward mobility. You’re not going to find good executives without developing them through increasing levels of middle management throughout their career.
