Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Dan, Can You Hear Me Now?

Another round of layoffs at Verizon is again being presented as part of the company’s transformation. Employees have heard this language before. Each cycle promises a reset and a stronger future for the business.

At the same time former CEO Hans Vestberg has moved into an advisory role at Consello. Like many executives before him he has transitioned from leading a major telecom operator into a position where his relationships and experience in the industry become the product.

For employees watching these cycles repeat the contrast is hard to miss. Workers face uncertainty and job losses while leadership often moves on to new opportunities within the same industry ecosystem.

Telecom is entering one of the largest investment periods in decades. Artificial intelligence data demand and digital infrastructure are reshaping the industry. The real question is whether Verizon is positioning itself to lead that next phase or simply managing costs while others shape the future.

Employees have heard the transformation message many times.

At some point the question becomes simple.

Dan, can you hear them now.

Dan does not need to hear anymore of your weeping. Your days are numbered. If he had heard you earlier you would be gone already.

He cut a lot of unnecessary and redundant jobs. Meanwhile I didn’t get a raise this year because I’m above market value. Not even a consideration for cost of living increase. We can’t take care of who we kept? Also there is no room now for upward mobility. Everyone who survived is scrambling to show their value. But if you have aspirations for growth it is very limited.

@ac "If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, it probably is a duck."

This is the pump phase:

  1. Cut OPEX, execute massive layoffs, discontinue products, and exit specific markets
  2. Cut CAPEX, close stores, close offices, and divest
  3. Increase free cash flow; stop distributing stock to employees to reduce supply
  4. Continue leveraging PR regarding AI
  5. Execute a massive buyback program and increase the dividend even further instead of paying off debt

Thanks for the investing advice but no, I have no intention to validate such execs and policy with my money.

What was the point of signing Samp back up, the. Turning around and canning him? Majority thought Samp would assume CEO when D rolls out, but clearly they were way off. Who's the newest prospect?!

Anyone being truthful knows this company has been needing a good purge. Dan has a plan and will be successful. If you are so sure it is a pump and dump and he will profit then follow his lead. Buy up shares and dump when he does. I am all in. There are way too many useless employees here. Now that he settled with the union side he will clean out the other. Buy shares and enjoy.

Dan has presented a multi billion dollar savings initiative to his team. It's impossible to do it without cutting heads.

He's only hear to clean it up.

Behind the scenes there are meetings happening and data being presented.

I'm going to imagine this time it's consolidating groups and letting folks go that are doing repetitive roles.

10%-15% across the board again.

He can't. He said he was old and only reads email. Maybe try his POTS line...

His spiel is his retirement money, nice 200 millions. All he needs to do is raise the stock to $75. That's it, that's what matters. He will be out in less than two years. The AI buzz is sugarcoating the brutal Opex cuts so Wall Street swallows it. There is no other plan.
