There could be an alternate story for that LL3. In 2019 one LL3 was questioning the layoff lists curated by his underlings. He was told to work on trusting his leadership team.
Major projects went off the rails after the Smart Redesign. The LL3 began listening in on the project meetings and realized mistakes were made. The LL3 asked one of the vendors to hire released employees and assign them to the Ford account. Those released employees had alternate plans.
The expected career trajectories of some LL4s and LL5s were altered.

OMG some of the posters must have their heads in the sand.
After every mass Ford layoff post Mulally there has been a surge in hiring and promotions.

For example in 2019 our department cut all the SMEs and tech spec LL6s with 20+ years experience. Within two weeks there were promotions to fill all those positions with non-tech employees. Within a month each of those promoted was allowed to hire 2 to 5 people to do the work they were unable to do. Then followed creation of LL5 positions to manage the increased headcount. Now since the people selecting the new hires had no tech skills they hired employees who also could not do the job. This led to a perpetual merry-go-round of stealth layoffs followed by even more hiring. When the blind squirrel found a nut, the nut always quit as they found themselves doing all the work but getting none of the credit. Eventually the LL3 steps in and says ‘WTF this department’s people budget keeps growing and work output keeps declining, Let’s outsource this department’.

Being old and thankfully just retired, I now wonder was all of this on purpose? For this particular department the LL3 is the same as it was in 2019. So he has been the one making the decisions all along. But then again it’s more likely that he is just incompetent.

@a2

Look, I know it's hard to lose a job but you gotta believe that whole program is a mess. Consider your exit a blessing in disguise because if there is any group you had limited time at it'd be that one. I don't know if it's because the group is a larger one, many layers of management, but highly political and if there ever was a group that would layoff high performance employees it'd be that one. Flaky management along with a generally adversarial posture towards other groups. Infotainment is a scapegoat at basically all OEMs I think though. Either way good luck.

Did anyone miss what Farley recently said about major layoffs?

“Will AI lead to layoffs? Are people already losing their jobs to AI? While overall unemployment in the U.S. is still relatively low, there is considerable speculation that the adoption of generative AI was a cause of recent layoffs and slowed hiring, particularly in the tech industry, for entry-level workers, and in customer service and programming jobs. More may be coming: Leading CEOs—including those from Ford, Amazon, Salesforce, and JP Morgan Chase—have proclaimed that many white-collar jobs at their companies will soon disappear.”

I can confirm layoffs are happening. I know one person who was scored low on their perf eval and was laid off.
