Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Unfair Unfair Unfair

After many years at Verizon, this layoff opened my eyes to some hard truths. Many of us worked weekends, late nights, and emergencies to make the network successful — but it took the company only minutes to cut us off. In certain regions, decisions were extremely unfair. Poor performers were kept because of friendships, while high performers were let go simply because we focused on the network more than politics.

I’m disappointed in how favoritism outweighed merit. But I’m also grateful for the experience — and very excited for the next chapter. Verizon underpays, and now I know my true market value. Sometimes a closed door really is a blessing.

@OP As someone below mentioned, walking through life KNOWING that it can be unfair and you are powerless in some things leads to more success by focusing on things you can control. One of those is your happiness.
The other thing to remember is (even though it seems to lean toward the employer) that right to work laws are somewhat necessary compromise. Just like divorces before the no fault laws, no one wants to be stuck in a rank and file miserable job because of employment contracts.
Of course executive contracts are different and are negotiated by lawyers and talent(less) agents.

I went through this in Nov 2023 at 60 years old.
They did me a huge favor as I would have taken the package if asked.
Two years later, I never looked for work so essentially retired.
I know a lot of people don't have that luxury and I wish them well.

Verizon has let their legacy companies and network go by the waste side. People have gone and Verizon does not hire their replacements. The company expects the remaining few to give a cr-p and work different shifts so they don't have to pay OT. Verizon is loosing money all over the place and some of the waste is right in front of them. It has nothing to do with the front line workers and techs. Upper brass makes bad decisions and we pay the price in the end.

Once you realize that life is not fair. You will live a better life. Vz is not the only company who does this, every company does. Everyone is just a number and can be disposed at anytime. No need to act like your the victim. Yea it happened, oh well on to the next thing. You cant sit and cry about it. Worry about you in you family and stop thinking/worrying about a company who doesn't even know who you are. That goes for any company your work for!

For those who stay at Verizon or for those who go to another company. Just remember - they DONT CARE ABOUT YOU!

You are just another number. If you breaking your back thinking you making some change - you’re wrong

We all do, It will be ok. Dont stress it out. The package and unemployment will help for the time bieng, important is you dont let the companies decide your mental health. Start working on ur resume and see whats out there, stay strong and motivated. You are much stronger and bigger than these ruthless, emotionless and evil !diots on the top.

God I hope you’re right. I have awoken every morning just sick to my stomach. The nightmares are horrible. 20 years of employment for me, gone. We relied on this job. I loved this job. I realize the mornings are the worst for me. Right now, Monday morning, I feel absolutely sick.
