Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

Predict the next 8 months

Tell me what you think will happen from now until April.

My predictions:

Cable stripped to bare bones. CBS completely restructured.

Most fully remote employees cut in November (I’m fully remote) so they don’t have to relocate anyone. International fully destroyed.

Mass exodus due to RTO.

Engineering and streaming jobs all posted in LA, NY, SF with below median compensation.

DE outsourcing everything he possibly can to Oracle.

DE buying more IP with his dad’s money.

And I say all this as a person who absolutely loves our company. I hate what this has become. I hate to be a glass half empty person. And I’m not trying to hate on any department or division of Paramount. I’m just being completely realistic about what is going to happen here.

Ok, let’s hear it.

Redbird will drive paramount & CBS brands into the ground. Check out Elizabeth Warren social media on private equity buying brands like red lobster under the pretense it's failing and needs to be turned around - and then the business just gets gutted

@a7 the number of cable networks that Paramount airs is crazy. Waste of money and waste of manpower.

DE wants P+ to be a tech company, what does that mean? If you're not in tech and remote, say goodbye come November. If you're not leveraging AI for your work, say goodbye in November. If you are able to use AI prepare for a bigger workload. They are banking on AI, and so is every tech company.

My prediction: workload increases after the resignations and the layoffs and the people who remain will be in various states of crunch. 5-day RTO is a pipe dream? By this point next year, it'll be 6 or 7.

RTO is the BEGINNNG of the sh-tshow, not the end. If this is how DE opens, what else is he capable of?

@ae let’s be clear. There is some deadweight at this company. Look at the org chart. But there are ton of high performers who work excessively hard who will be returning to the office and WILL be the victim of cuts.

There a lot of remote people who are 1000+ miles away who cannot RTO who are valuable performers who do the work for half the price.

But you know, these are cost saving measures which entail hiring the same qualified individuals in NYC for double the price for less work.

@a8 if you’re concerned about employees then the success of Paramount should be your top priority. Employees won’t have a job without success. If a hedge fund or WB bought us the company would have dissolved and sold for parts. DE was our only hope.
I’m sorry some people have to get dressed and go to work but that’s what the boss wants and that’s what adults do.

@a7 The cable nets need at least some originals, per their deals with the cable ops. They won’t get carriage with only library shows. Also, ad sales would completely dry up.

I predict more waste of space on this blog

@a6 the biggest concern is not growth. I’ve been fairly confident we’ve been on the upswing ONLY year without DE.

The biggest concern has always been the well being of its dedicated employees. People want to be at Paramount. The problem is that DE is making it difficult for those loyal people to stay. And, if everything was right in the world, he’d find a way to utilize the folks that give their right arm to work at “the mountain”. The passionate people are the ones who stay and decline opportunities because they believe in themselves, their teams, and what they do.

The bigger issue is whether or not DE is actually a good leader. Running a production company is a not the same as what he’s doing now. He went from the JV basketball team to the NBA in a month.

Look, I want the company to grow too. But I feel like he exchanged the talent here for other things. It is what it is.

I think smaller cable nets will dissolve completely once contracts expire, and bigger cable nets will just become library networks - aka no premieres or launches, just serve as barker nets pushing P+ or theatricals. I really don’t see them green lighting programming to premiere on cable, so library nets is a way to keep lights on.

Over the next 8 months the company will grow exponentially. Oracle is making the move to pass Amazon and Paramount will be used as the vehicle to do that. If LE and pull off TikTok just think of the potential. Like it or not folks Paramount was dying. DE saved us.
Cable is still profitable. In fact it’s been the only part of the business making money. Many of the smaller channels will be shutdown. Employees and work will be streamlined to get the most out of it for as long as they could.
CBS news was a joke way before Trump so people can relax there. I trust with some good journalists back in charge it can be saved.
The movie industry destroyed itself with garbage scripts, covid, and the strike. Some of the movies coming out look ok. The Na--d G-n was easily the funniest movie in a decade.
I have high hopes for the future.
