Quitting Corporate

Is the Corporate Exodus Picking Up Steam?

Lately, it feels like everyone I talk to is either planning their exit or daydreaming about it during yet another Teams meeting that could’ve been an email.

The reasons vary:
• Burnout
• Misaligned values
• Forced return-to-office
• Micromanagement
• Stagnant pay despite rising expectations

There’s a growing chorus of people realizing they don’t want to spend the next 10–20 years climbing a ladder that might be leaning against the wrong wall.

If you’ve been thinking about walking away from the corporate grind… what’s holding you back? Fear? Financial pressure? Not knowing what’s next?

It’s a job. All jobs su-k.
This one at least su-ks predictably.

I’m stuck here due to financial pressures, not to mention this glorious job market. Anyone frustrated with the current LinkedIn ghost jobs and constant spamming?

I spend my days kissing customer a-s and churning out quotes like a trained circus animal. They call me the “quote monkey” and honestly, it’s nice to be recognized for something, even if it’s the slow erosion of my dignity.

For me it's that lack of doing something that actually matters. I spends most of my day to day hearing "reduce the margin," " too expensive" selling fooking servers ffs. In the old days we actually cared about the outcome, about making the world even slightly better. All of that has gone. I need the $$ to pay bills but do want to quit the corporate he-l that EvilCorp has become.

"Small to mid-market companies still have opportunities."

They also have a 64% un-sustainability rate for employee retention past 12 months right now. So if you are cool with a temp assignment, go for it

If you don’t have a side hustle brewing to rescue you from your corporate coma, what are you even doing?

@ae My experience is that large tech company opportunities are pretty much dead, particularly in Austin. None of them are doing much hiring, and they are all continuing with layoffs and offshoring. Small to mid-market companies still have opportunities.

Out of everyone I know at Dell who has left, only 2 ended up at another giant corporation. The rest are working for a small biz, started their own biz, or are still looking.

@aa
Speak for yourself and don’t present your situation as a universal truth.

What's holding people back is opportunity. Is the grass greener on the other side of the fence? The job market isn't good.

The work we do is honestly so meaningless. The pay is nice but I feel I should be doing something that actually matters and makes a difference.

Quit corporate? And then what, government? Non profit? Sell crafts at farmers markets?
I’m not saying don’t, just don’t quit without a plan.

I literally cannot afford to pay my bills without making at least 70k. I’ve been trying to leave for over a year
