Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Would you rather be notified two weeks in advance of layoff or the day you are notified be your last day?

Would you rather be notified two weeks in advance of layoff or the day you are notified be your last day? I was recently laid off, and I appreciate to some extent the two weeks of extra income, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t hard having to continue to work knowing the company decided not to keep me but kept others on my team.

Notified escorted out immediately. When I am done I am done. If processes are not documented not my problem let "leadership" and their infinite wisdom figure it out. As far as coworkers you still got a job so su-k it up. They stop caring once you are no use to them every time

I was given 2 weeks notice. I also was told I was not required to do any work in that 2 week period. Of course I didn't. This helped make up for all the extra time I worked on my breaks and lunch to recoup some of my free time given to them.
My supervisor filled out my time card for the 80 hours.
Left happily with my severance package and have not looked back since.
Bye B**ches! Peace Out

2 weeks. It's courtesy for us to give it so why isn't it for the employer? That way I can burn PTO and help the people that will get my work stuff on their plate.

I would love to be given 2 weeks notice. I would make sure my processes were well documented, I would ensure my coworkers understood how to do them and then at the end of the 2 weeks I would walk away feeling good. Getting let go without the closure time would feel just unsettling. I would feel horrible for the people who would inherit all the work I do without knowledge of the little gotchas. I would certainly not be looking for other opportunities internally. The only way to go, is out and up!

Giving two weeks notice is pointless. You wont be expected to do any work and what leverage do they have if you decide not to. At the moment of notice I become deaf d-mb and blind since my services are no longer necessary

Yes, I know about the software. I saw the day it was scheduled to be installed on my laptop for the 1st time (many years ago). I even researched the software to understand all its capabilities.

10+ years ago, there wasn't any laptop tracking software on my laptop. I wouldn't have cared then & I don't care now because I always do my job.

You made the wrong assumption that I was clueless & ignorant about the tracking software.

Glad you had a moment to laugh your a-s off. 😁

I never said that I wouldn't do any work. I absolutely would response to chat & email that requested my assistance. Also, I never said that I would be away from my work laptop.

However, to protect my mental health & wellbeing, I would choose wisely my last 2 weeks of coworker interaction.

Of the people that I know who were RIFed, they were encouraged by managers to spend those 2 weeks looking for a new job.

Do what works best for you & not the corporation that kicked to the curb.

Those in our dept who were RIFd were told they did not need to work but would be paid. They were told to spend the time looking for redeployment. It’s cruel to expect them to work, and on the flip side they could cause damage intentionally if they wanted to so why would the company make them work?

If I was laid off I would give zero Fs if they could see my clicks or lack thereof every minute if I put my status offline. I would also want to be notified the last day but otherwise should this day come I would put my status on Do Not Disturb or Offline.

Send the email. They’re going to miss you. I know it’s painful, but your team needs closure, too.

Stay there the last 2 weeks, as is kind of free money. I was told that any work was expected from me. Therefore, I dedidcated the extra time on looking for internal jobs, attend the transition meetings and update my resume. I put myself in do not disturb.

Yeah this is really tough for me. I keep wondering, "Why ME?" and "do they even KNOW?" Not sure if I should send a goodbye email to my team or what, on Tuesday.

I'd prefer a voluntary Package with severance and bridge the time to Medicare with UHG healthplan. Get some of the highly paid elderly off the payrolls so we can open opportunity for young people.

I preferred Notified on My Last Day, but I am looking for the exit now & don't need the extra 2 weeks.

I agree that I would not wish to continue working after being notified.

I noticed a mixed bag of WFH RIFed employees who had 2 weeks notice:
1 - Work as normal & stay available in MS Teams
2 - MS Teams status offline & use the time to look for a job

I would choose #2

I would have prefered it being my last day. I am also having the same problem. It’s bad enough we got laid off but then to expect us to continue working was another example of why this company is abhorrent.
