Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

What happened today was horrendous

I don’t get the logic, everyone I know that was impacted is a top star employee.

Why the actual eff did HR get rid of everyone they did but not touch the hairdressers that came over during the pandemic, without a high school degree?!

Why did they let managers stay that have openly criticized their teams for so many people having college degrees, when they don’t?! HR believes people that are insecure about not having an education are a better fit for management?! No! The ones that have that bad of imposter syndrome should have been right sized.

I hate this layoff so much because the logic is zero.

I only know one person personally who got it and it made sense. He’s worked at the company 10 years but wasn’t good at his current role. I hope he finds something else he is good at though. Good person just not a good SM. I think they kept people they thought could adapt.

@ad a college degree makes it easier to get in the door after that it’s not relevant.

@ad never mentioned highly technical SLs had college degrees , just they were very hands on technical vs CLs just scheduling meetings and getting status updates

@a4 Everyone can be replaced. Everyone needs to realize you are replaceable, and if you quit, get laid off, or die at your desk slaving away, the company will continue along just fine without you or me.

Who are these hairdressers?

It has logic, just not the logic that works towards the goal you have in mind. people without degrees and experience tend to be more.. and people with a good resume often.. A company full of uneducated, low iq employees whose job is to click a mouse all day.. is a company thats getting ready to transition its driving force to AI.

All English or music majors folks working as technical chapter leaders are still here but highly technical SL and GSL let go ? Makes no sense

I personally know and confirmed 10 people impacted in my BU in technology. Only a few made sense, the rest extremely unexpected. We have multiple high performing and critical employees being let go at the end of the month and some whos knowledge and experience can't be replaced. It makes no sense.

Hopefully this future reorg brings some miracles with it because I can't see how the rest of the people remaining can be expected to fill the gaps.

agreed, keeping bootlicking hairdressers (no offense) and doing RIF people who actually do work is horrible though. We have seen this a lot today.

I have worked for over 20 years in my field prior to joining Fid two years ago. Many people don’t have fancy college degrees cause they don’t have fancy rich parents to pay for them!! Don’t be elitist. It fine to say this person su-ks at their job but having a degree or not does not predict performance. I am sure there are many folks with a degree that are dead weight and many folks without one who had to scarp and bust their a-s to get where they are who are really amazing at their jobs and vice versa.
