Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

They are right execution is the problem but how are we going to execute?

Still too much vagueness around how they are going to fix the execution at this company. AI buzzwords isn’t going to be it.

I had to laugh at some of the most basic execution problems ML pointed out regarding emails or tickets. Embarrassing for us.

@eq exactly! AI is the main cash leak instead they want worrying about the small leaks like headcount. Everyone’s f-Ing high on AI crack.

Difficult to execute with additional headcount.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) cost money as well but no one in our executive leadership seems to know that.

@d8 That’s what I was told when I was laid off. I asked if I could move into another role here, since the job market is so rough right now. It’s frustrating—I see people come into the office who spend their time checking stock prices and chatting, while some of the people who actually do the work get let go. Go figure.

Execute is a buzzword. Nobody - actually no one - uses it outside of offices

This structural rot is real. SVP/ VP that can’t handle a simple change without causing friction are given a team of 100. 50 are nepo hires and the other 50 actually breaking their back to pick up the slack for VP poor decisions. The SVP/VP are insulated from consequences that go on frequent time offs, always OOO, Because the small ratio of competent people are good enough to keep output afloat, leadership above sees numbers that look acceptable. The machine runs despite the SVP/VP, not because of them.

They will execute by senior executives scaring SVPs and VPs to run their areas even More like a sweatshop.
Remember when work was friendly, and people didn’t hate it? You know, a tight deadline and everyone jumps in together to get it done? Now it’s just threats and pressure all the time every day.

Mike could barely keep a straight face reading through those issues — and honestly, same. It has happened to me multiple times. Tickets get quietly closed just to make the numbers look good. At that point, you can’t really trust anything coming out of these incident management teams metrics-wise.

@OP do you not get it? His strategy is built on 5 Pillars of Gagligook! Made perfect sense to me.

“We are hiring client facing (sales) people and won’t be replacing you with AI, but also Project Elevate (which we cannot name an specific initiatives or spaces that are a part of it, whatever it is) is going to save us a half BILLION a year. Also AgentOS that was made with a small team, and quickly, will be purchased by all the clients, we just need to actually connect it to our APIs first.”

What part of that direction is confusing?

@a1 well ML today said no hiring freezes and in fact we should see an increase in headcount. Tried to reassure no reduction with using AI. Hard to really trust a thing he says as he is really shaky in how he vocally delivers his message. Dhivya also another one that doesn’t instill any faith with how nervous she shifts public speaking. Only guy that sounded like a leader and might have a vision there was Takis.

They're going to fix the execution by firing and instituting hiring freezes in the orgs that actually build and maintain the products, while hiring a bunch of commission-based sales people and then lying but not technically lying to our face about headcount being up across the company and no hiring freezes. Duh
