The funny part is they could get rid of 90% of streaming tech (particularly managers of managers) and probably end up with a better app and be profitable. But that would take actually knowing who the productive people are. Too bad those people get laid off because competence makes others look bad. The tell is who cares about optics vs. who cares about good work.

My boss and my boss’s boss and my boss’s boss’s boss do pretty much nothing.

@ax yep management layers is dead weight and should be top of list for layoff as these people keep putting talent on the list and keeping the lazy and d-mb around

@af the amount of SVP, VP, Sr. Director, Director and the number of reports is obscene in Streaming Tech, especially Pluto as this is rife for cost savings and increasing tech competition as that layer has stifled innovation

@ax They’re creating more senior roles though.

@be In the Paramount People Leaders Slack group a notification was posted by Paramount Comms, which also mentioned “Most US hybrid and on-site employees will return to full-time office in-office work on September 14th 2026, with a small number returning sooner.“ So I guess you can go back to being hybrid until then?

I expect backlash for this one lol, but what’s with all the hostility? literally none of us here made the policy. I’m phase 1, it su-ks but I make the best of it. I’m happy for my colleagues who no longer have to live with the uncertainty of phase 2 every single day (ie “Will I have to move my family to NY or LA?”). I want to wfh as much as the next person, but I don’t resent anyone in phase 2 and I don’t blame anyone in phase 1 who’s pi---d off :::shrug:::

Bigger problem is the stream tech group has spent years building p+ and it’s still the worst app on the market.

I was part of the last batch of layoffs and I don’t make six figures. They haven’t event scratched the surface.

If they really want to make any kind of dent at $80 Billion debt, they need to let of of most of these overpaid EVPs and SVPs…seriously! More managers than workers in the company!

@ae if you were hybrid or remote out of an office that was not NYC or LA the policy has not relaxed. They will be back in 5 days a week like the rest of the NYC/LA folks and still have a short window to decide.

It only has for streaming tech and ad ops it sounds like. International’s delay makes sense as it’s really complex with all the various laws in different countries..

@ac I don't know which org you're in but in streaming org, people that were hired fully remote were given the same starting salary.

In fact, most of the streaming people who are fully remote have received 3-4 promotions in comparison to the hybrid ones, now full RTO.

@aa How about just nobody does RTO? I feel like this relaxation of Phase 2 sh-t is because the "policy" is already failing and they have no way of enforcement without making the situation worse. I see no need to fall into a blatant "divide and conquer" trap.

@aa But it’s fair to hire people in remote locations, take advantage of paying them a lower salary due to lower cost of living and being remote, and then ask those people to move to NY or LA without pay adjustments?

Give me a break.

I'm in streaming tech..I know for a fact some of us have been exempt from RTO..

while it makes sense to not be in the office by yourself and it is true some of work non traditional hours. There's always at least 3-4 people in any given shift. Some night shifts have even 7-8 people and those people have been exempt.

It's not fair for some of us having to go to the office 5 days a week (gas prices. Hello?) and some of us are exempt.

Keep in mind, some night/weekend shifts have been given bigger compensation at the start of their employment due to their non traditional hours. And now they are fully exempt from RTO?

@a1 I'm gonna assume a few things here. 1) the architects of certain areas are fundamental and aren't near an office, so they get a pass. probably not a large number of these people. I personally dont know any of these types but im sure they exist. 2) some people may have untraditional work hours or days that wouldn't make sense if they were in an office setting alone. they are still needed somewhat, at least for the short term. 3) most important is that they aren't looking for any of us to stay. the goal isn't to make this pleasant. they need a lot of people to go. they are literally $79 billion in debt with a junk credit rating. I think a lot of people forget this or dont realize it.

@a3 wouldn't be the first time messaging is off target internally .

@a1 this seems to contradict some internal messaging. It seems like the exemption will be for all fully remote employees and international

for those who face a paywall, this is from the article: Paramount is preparing to tell many of its remote employees that they'll be required to work in person later this year, even if they don't live near an office, Business Insider has learned.

Some employees on certain teams — including streaming tech and ad operations — will be exempt, a person familiar with the decision said.

Paramount previously told employees that Phase 2 RTO details would be announced in 2026.

This second RTO push applies to international workers and staffers hired for fully remote positions, including those outside the New York and Los Angeles metro areas.
