Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

VH vision is paying off at Oxy

There is no doubt that VH and her leadership team are doing a terrific job at Oxy. She is focused on her goal of making Oxy a great company. Her almost one decade of experience as the CEO has made Oxy a well respected and recognized name in the oil and gas industry. The 3Q results is something to be proud of. Her hard work is finally paying off. She is also working hard to pay down Oxy’s debt. Oxy is a leader in innovation and Carbon Capture. I am very proud to work for Oxy.

VH has a different opinion till the stock drops into the 30's. Then it won't matter what she's done , you will be HESS'd and 80% of you will be jettisoned. Nobody cares about your well being... Shareholders and value always wins. Save your money, you will need it.

I also came from another larger company, Oxy is a great place to work, and we are mostly more competent that some of the larger oil and gas companies who are typically even more paralyzed by there size and slave to external consulting companies.

Kudos to VH for not capitulating to the layoff trend, or the offspring trend, we are lucky, and I believe it's the right move.

@a2 - I don't know if you look at TheLayOff for other O&Gs or those in other industries, but there are more and more involuntary separations (early retirements, VSPs, termination of bottom performers, and layoffs). I've worked with some of the largest organizations in the United States before coming to Oxy. Whether people want to acknowledge it or not (or perhaps really not even aware), VH does have a different attitude about employees than many others in her role at other organizations. One company where I was formerly just laid off several thousand; another is doing early retirements that do not have the types of benefits Oxy is offering.

Yeah, it's easy to sit and armchair quarterback things - actually getting off your backside and doing something is altogether different. I have indicated an interest in the VSP and, assuming I am offered it, will leave with a belief that Vicki was prepared to put employees ahead of folks like corporate raider Carl Icahn.

op

Now they are a “recognized name in the oil and gas industry”.

We can tell you are very young and not really an oil and gas professional. Maybe HR or accounting. Oxy has been out there a long time and probably longer than you have existed as a human. They were a big name company until the current CEO and previous CEO got a hold of the company. Now they are a …..what do they do? Oh yes they make household cleaners like OxyClean. Or maybe they are a Permian shale driller. But very few times do we see them mentioned as an IOC.

@OP

Your post is obviously an attempt to wind people up. On which side, I'm not entirely sure, so perhaps both.

If - and that's a BIG "If" - you are serious, then

Please define the "VH Vision" of which you speak in real, objective, measurable terms.

Assertions like . . .

"Making Oxy a great company"

"Working hard to pay down Oxy’s debt."

"A leader in innovation and Carbon Capture"

. . . are subjective and cannot be measured.

You also left out Mom and Apple Pie, but your point is taken; Vicki walks on water (that kayak can sometimes get tricky).

All that you - or any VH supporter - can offer is the "She's a caring people person" as a defense for her dismal performance.

While that may or not be true, she is an abject failure as a CEO. And like it or not, the CEO reports to the owners (shareholders) via the BOD.

THAT is not open to debate.

Only an employee hoping to keep their job for just a little while longer would disagree.

You can be both a nice, caring person and a lousy .

There are several over 65 even 70 that should take advantage of this opportunity. They are very lucky to have made it this long. VH is a good person, and she has done her best to take care of her employees. But agree not the shareholders…

@aq+1k9wxzp8s - I know of 7 that have asked for it, and that includes me. Only one person I talked to wants to keep working, and that is fine. He is a good worker and can keep up with any younger person. If you don't take it there is a chance it will happen through a layoff or another lesser vsp down the road. If you get the insurance it really is best to take it now in my mind. I am just hoping (praying really) they let us all go at the end of the year and don't make us work 3-6 more months for transitons and projects. I am ready to go now and have started the transition with my co-workers. After hearing what is going on at Conoco I feel blessed to even have this offer. I am very grateful for the vsp, and I hope it saves another employee's job down the road. Thank you Vicki and Oxy!!

I agree with the OP. Vicki is a special leader who genuinely cares for people. OXY employees are blessed. Unfortunately there are some mo--ns who come on here and bash her. They should find new gigs.

Not many people taking the VSP. Only know of around 5… not sure that’s going to make a big difference

Let’s see how deep the layoffs are before we start singing her praises. The vsp tells me they are likely coming.
