Thread regarding Resideo Technologies layoffs

Storm the product that costs millions

Storm in a teacup seems not to be going anywhere.
Starting with products that have no real strategy, can’t figure out what feature they want, can’t describe what they want except do it like another previous one to hardware out of control claiming everything works to development doing another white development to keep developers busy in Austin to management that can’t really manage... all that will cause layoffs across the company, while engineers laugh and the axe falls on other teams

Screwed on both end: product management and engineering by the Vi-fool-vek
Sometime I keep wondering how some people got a director (or above) job or even a job for that matter... but hey keep the gravy train going while workers get lay-off ...

@abtu,
That demotion for that one is in GV
Alternatively can be a lay-off ... smiling to their leader then complaining once the person turns around can get people in a pickle.

If it’s storm related must be in GV no?
Most likely products, it fits.

We will have no delays in storm.
No lay-off at any level in products in GV. Only in engineering after launch.
Demotion will occur ASAP for a Sr director that talks loud, but is not effective, and can’t manage as a leader. Should be more a single contributor and that’s where things may work out. There are some (after being ineffective living off older devices or after making a mess) that have hope for a package like the execs in Austin but that is not possible.

Maybe the VPGM should learn what is product management provide the strategy, and guide hardware engineering in GV.
That way maybe a truly new product could come out.

WTF... who really runs or manages that product ??? Get that out now.

Our chances of delivering storm before the heating season just increased by .6 %
That’s great news.
#wearereaideo !
Selected Team members should get a permanent all expense paid vacation of a few weeks based on seniority shortly after that...

No directors or above in engineering or products affected by that permanent all expense paid vacation .

nobody gives a hoot about PMO anywhere in any company. They are replaceable fast. Like those design people, with both types overpaid the same.
I am more worried about hardware and software. If the two got good info from the products owners / managers / directors maybe they have a chance...
Since when did we become a software company when hardware was what we did best? Now we have nothing that works except resumes for select people that have spent millions on pet projects.

Well, for months the word has been that we have a great PMO based in Austin and that PMO is better than any GV or Melville director... why is that PMO not assigned to the overall storm in the exec meetings?
If that person can’t function at that level then why still in the company? Please put that PMO in charge to salvage that project!

@3pir,
Probably meant not week for year.... but then again is it 2020 or 2021... track record for delivery is -shall we say in the negative zone.

Because some in their wisdom have created the most complex architecture for Titan and some with agendas have decided to make it a blocker, no way storm is coming out this week as is. Anyone that thinks otherwise needs to speak up ... and when Titan is finished let’s see if the hardware really works... more surprises there.
Oh yeah...and we have some customer pre pay for air? That should be illegal...

Have found a fool ( I mean customer) yet to prepay for storm?
I need my $

Proposal: need a capable Sr director for our products. If that doesn’t work nothing in engineering can work (or pull stuff out of the magical bunny hat)
Need real strategic and products skills not just this is bad or others are id–ts.

Let’s refocus on the issues with:
Products and the lack of strategy, living with the revenue of past Honeywell successes.
Hardware and software ... those are fundamental issues. And they concern management no matter what anyone says...
Suggestions on how to fix those areas?

Looks like we have again Austin middle level management going after others in the last 2 posts... clearly a nerve got it.
I don’t think that poster said all need to fired... (although that is what Austin wanted to do constantly with Honeywell..before).
However, if one wants to cleanup the place ... better do it throughly... and yeah let’s see how much revenue software got in Austin....
must be a supervisor level that answered (even though may have been promoted far beyond his capabilities as a sales guy?)
The anger always shows who it is....

@1fkp...

What exactly have you done for the company lately? Please list your accomplishments since you think every management employee should be demoted or fired. What revenue generating, cost saving, or cost efficiency work have you done lately?

CTO, CEO and all those C... what is most important... is the execution and it comes just below. Clearly across the Sr directors and directors there is a need for some upgrade in skills. For sure some demotion like what happened at the VP level are in order. We can see in comfort that this is needed too, hardware, software, products... some directors should really be managers or product managers or project managers and some Sr directors should just be directors. Until the teams see that >everyone< is held accountable, the self promoting is held in check, nothing will truly change. Actually if you were praised by the former CTO and the current “CTO” in Austin that is a insanely huge red flag! One more promotion from that group will send the signal that the VPs is not serious about recovery.
Why get rid of the previous CTOs and keep the smoke and mirrors below?
Based on the way they talk many of those will threaten to leave... that will show they don’t care about the company as they are grossly overpaid.... enough ! We want change so the company can thrive !

Maybe if we had a real CTO in charge that could help the situation?

If GV just does a bunch of 3D print of the empty shell they can deliver in Q2....or Q3...
And use the same board over and over again... new product ? just change the exterior... no innovation...but customers can be fooled right? We have been selling them air for more than a year already !

This was never about whether Austin was better or not... it was about a CEO that wanted to spend millions moving everything to Austin where he lived. This is about using the company dime for personal use. Look at the current projects under his friends In software? Don’t tell me they are helping anything this is some fancy plans to boost their resume ...
As for the managerial capabilities... well maybe they should get hired by our competitors... should give us a boost...however doubt those %^*# will leave on their own..... it’s like a bad piece of gum that you can’t get off your shoe (not I don’t wear flip flops... who the hell is in management and wears flip flops at work?)

It's fascinating that @obz responded to @rxg with the first line "I understand that you fear for your job...." ? what in that comment had anything to do with job security?

Austin is and was an expensive and unnecessary place for the headquarters of this company. Expensive real estate, expensive employees, with little chance of retention. Bad decision.

hmm while the ratings are mostly outdated, I have to say that I have not been impressed by Austin leadership no matter the level -from VPs to managers or PMs
Sure they are nice and social but.... and I leave it at that.... and moving those people to GV... is not going to fix the problem. It’s a people problem. Always been.
I also find weird these constant manipulations to insert people of Austin into everything or trying to “socialize” whether with comfort or security or anything else. That is bothersome.

@rxg,
I understand you fear for your job considering what’s happening but consider this:
In Austin we have exceptional teams and management (the management is really the most critical) leading the new backend called torch and while lumina is late it will replace buggy products across.
the software architecture was validated by Melville and Rolle with Titan itself and deemed far ahead what we currently have.

"Management must shift to Austin".... Who in Austin has the depth of knowledge to lead the IoT connected home thermostat business? If you don't have our connected home products and software installed in your home - then take a moment to ask why you're so outspoken about something you aren't even using. If you care about the success of the company, then use the products and offer valid and valuable hands on feedback. The leadership and individual contributors in Minneapolis, Melville, and beyond are. We have a 4.5 rated app that allows millions of users to control their homes today (Honeywell Home app) and - TCC (also rated 4.3+ stars) doing the same. Yes they need improvements - but they are in use in the market (unlike Lumina that is all smoke and mirrors cept BUOY) Our Security business with the TC app is also highly rated. If you're not willing to use our products and give constructive and real hands on feedback - then move on. Find a company / job and something you care about. Because many of us DO care and your whining has become boring and weird. Find another job.

I wonder if the comfort product and strategy can’t be fixed by having that Sr director position located in Austin with someone more qualified?
Maybe that would avoid lay-offs across multiple teams?

I don’t think this can be managed from GV. Notoriously incompetent talkers with all kind of theories, banging on the heads of other teams is not helping even if it fools some VP.
Management must shift to Austin . We have competent people living onsite across the vertical and torch is an example.
