Thread regarding IBM layoffs

The next stop

I'm starting to think about what's next and I'm curious where other people went after they left IBM. Did you stay in the same field? Go somewhere totally different? Move to a smaller place or another big one?

@ab yes many do much better and enjoy things much better at a business partner or becoming "a customer" USING IT instead of SELLING it. IBM really is a declining dumpster fire and I NEVER thought I would say this (joined in the 80s) but PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING is better IBM as IBM is like a meat slicer that just cuts into your mind and body each minute of every day.

RA ‘d from CIO in Spain 2 years ago. moved to an insurance company that doubled my IBM salary and tbh that RA was one of the best things that could happen to me.

IT is a dead horse at this time since AI is taking over most if not all of the tasks that you needed to keep your systems up and running. Who needs lots of PMs, developers and coders any more ? or even lots of Cloud or Security people to manage environments and run scans when you can automate most things ? No one needs overpriced and overpaid consulting clowns either from IBM or McKinsey.

Areas which seem to currently have more job openings include healthcare and some parts of transportation - your mileage will vary depending on how flexible you are when going into new fields. You likely have to start at the bottom, so you should be prepared to accept a lower salary and benefits.

Times have changed. Even Alvind and the Pipmunks should not count on getting huge bonuses if they cannot deliver the goods. Investors are watching the bottom line (as they should be) - with and without layoffs. (IT CEOs will likely not be getting a free ride for the next couple of years. )
