Thread regarding Optum layoffs

RIF speed increasing. Just learned today

I've learned the old pattern of doing layoff's on Thursdays is being modified this year. They'll be doing them on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for the foreseeable future. There were folks let go yesterday and there was one today in Optum Health and HR, tomorrow is OT's day of reckoning.

Most toxic company ive ever worked for. Being let go has brought me so much life. I cant understand how I worked there for so long under that toxic environment. Its been only two days and I cant tell you how excited and alive I feel again. Im also thankful I didn't let them turn me into one of their blood su-king people leaders who mistreat, lie to, and harass their teams by consistently pushing employees to burn out or breaking points all in the name of saving a few bucks...but if theres one thing ive learned over the last two years ...no one and i mean NOONE is safe there..in time all will be revealed.

@br agree. Most employees received a 4 or a 5 on performance review and received no merit increase and the justification the supervisor gave was if it makes you feel better I didn’t receive one either. The bonus was minimal. You’re doing a wonderful job thanks for all of your hard work. That’s how they keep good people and set the tone for culture?! Now wonder top performers are leaving the company.

Some entry-level employees, like TDP, CDP, CSDP, etc., development programs get upwards of 10k, 20k, and 30k+ in restricted stock units.

To my knowledge only 30 and above get stock options

@ev Good luck with those RSU’s. Doubt the stock will ever recover.

@ev
Just curious what position the person with the stock awards is in because no one I know was receiving any (27-29) and 300 people plus were layed off at my site which was almost everyone regardless of Performance Ratings.

I agree with the person who said you are leadership because you are. You give the same b.s. talking points and you lack basic human empathy and compassion. It would make sense that morbid curiosity brings you here. Save your money though so you will be prepared to pay karma when it arrives until.then, keeping being the troll that you are.

Gotta love Optum leadership trolling this site and telling the worried employees they are all low performers. When all else fails, try some gaslighting!

a7 here.

I sure touched a nerve. 😂

First of all, not a boomer or even close. J am well under 50. Teenagers use that insult, do better.

Second, I never claimed being a high performer was guaranteed immunity. Skill set is important. The best buddy whip makers in the world lost their job when cars took over. Performance is only one aspect, your skills and their relevant are also key. Read my first post.

Third, I had a great CR this year. Got a 5. Raise was small however decent RRP and good stock awards. They ARE paying me for my performance. I am at the top of my game.

Forth, I am here out of morbid curiosity. I loled at the boomer and cliff comment. I can assure you that leadership isn't worried about some malcontent bi--hing on some site.

Fifth, I am very aware that I am not immune to layoffs. I have a chuck of money set aside just in case. I don't worry about it, I focus on doing my job to the best of my ability. As long as those RSUs keep coming I will keep on working. If things change I will find a other job.

Finally, have a great day. 😂

@a7 I’ll never perform in this company because they don’t pay me to perform.

@ab WHY WOULD YOU OR ANYONE BE A TOP PERFORMER FOR A COMPANY WHO DOESNT EVEN GIVE RAISES? GO CRASH YOUR CAR BOOMER

@a7 false. It’s about $$. Nothing else. You can be a top performer, 4-5 rating in annual reviews for 20+ years, NEVER been on a CAP, reliable, dependable and still be the first on the chopping block. The company doesn’t care about the person, only the dollars.

@a7 if you are not worried about layoffs why are you on this website? Also, would you care to share the business line and department where this strategy has worked for you and your current pay grade?

@a7 lol what’s the weather like in La La Land? My VP after laying off my whole team, “oh. I didn’t know they were working on this many projects.” They aren’t geniuses just bc of their inflated titles, bud.

I received a 5 rating the previous year and never lower than a 4. Was put on a new team and that was the ultimate downfall. Got caught in RIF last year. Rating doesn't matter if a high performer, the priority of your product and advocacy of your manager count most. My new manager was totally checked out and also got RIF'ed. I almost think it's a disadvantage to get large raises and bonuses because they make you look more expensive on a spreadsheet. Good luck to all!

I have been forced to cut top performers. VPs sometime override managers to cut more expensive employees or because the age mix needs to be correct for RIF reporting.

@a7 you must be a true id--t! I was laid off last month and a top performer all 5’s for several years and a super hero nominee for 3 years in a row. I know others as well. You keep telling yourself it’s low performers your day will come.

@a7 Nailed it. Anyone smashing the down arrow on this post is likely a low performer.

Are you guys really spending this much time worrying about layoffs?

Talk about self-fullfilling actions, this constant worrying and distraction is undoubtedly negativity affecting your performance, attitude, etc. That's a great way to become a candidate for the next layoff!

The best layoff insurance is to improvement yourself (skills, attitude, etc) and make yours as useful as possible.

Trust me, with a few exceptions, the top performers are never the first ones to be let go. You don't think they pull names out of a hat do you?

Well, they don't. The way most layoffs work is someone on the top (VP, etc) decides that they need to reduce headcount in this area or team. Then their subordinates rank their staff by skills, performance, attitude/teaming, cost, etc.

Then, based on that ranking, the decision is made to cut these N staff. I have never, ever, seen them them decide to cut the top of that list first.

Yes, sometimes a whole group is laid off, everyone including the rockstars. It can happen however it's less likely. If your a rockstar it's easier to IJP.

Being on a important project and/or being very good and dependable at your job significantly reduces your change of being laid off. So, instead worrying every week if your name came up how about you become that rockstar?

Big RIF in UHC yesterday. 60+ positions in Consumer Product. Way to switch things, up, UHG! Now people will have severe anxiety most days of the week, not just Thursday mornings.
