Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

At What Point Does a Sales Job Stop Making Sense?

So let me make sure I understand my situation:

I’m being required to come into the office five days a week…
while carrying a quota that doesn’t feel real…
in a role where success depends as much on internal decisions as actual selling…
while helping train the very AI tools that could eventually replace me…
on a low base salary…
doing mostly administrative work and churning quotes…
with little to no company culture…
coworkers I don’t connect with…
no visible upward mobility…
commission that feels more like roulette than performance-based pay…
and management that’s largely absent.

All while knowing I’m effectively stuck here until I land something better.

Mmmkay.

It stops making sense once you’re actually in the seat. No decent, self-respecting person would subject themselves to this kind of torture for long.

Apply for 20 jobs a week and leave, I did.

Life is much better after leaving.

Yes, the market is cr-p but it's a numbers game.

We can all make the same at Starbucks and not worry about having to crawl to 70% just to be at 0 commission. No bullsh-t CSATS’s or KPI’s either.

I give Sales a lot of credit. It's amazing they're able to sell anything at all. Engineering hasn't delivered anything innovative or competitive in years. Worse, everything Engineering promises (which Sales often depends on to help hit quota) the product either gets delayed or shelved. It's amazing Sales can even sell anything at all in this environment.

Clearly you don’t understand how sales actually works. Dell has been issuing structurally unattainable quotas for years. Sales is being used as a financial lever suppressing variable compensation and protecting margins for Wall Street rather than fairly rewarding performance.

@ad says it all. 68%! So some years you did about half your job and some you did slightly over half. You stink

If you wouldn’t mind bending over, grabbing your ankles, and letting Dell take it from here…

That would be great. Mmmkay.

I’m not willing to just spread my cheeks and let Dell go to work on me. It’s time to exit the premises.

Ok young man. First things first:

This is a tech refinery not a whinery.

If you aren’t willing to be tied to your desk 40hrs per week, sell millions for the man, receive 1c on the $, and do as we tell you…..

Then cash your chips at the table and do something else.

All valid points.

Only you can make that decision.

I feel like all in Sales needs to make this very decision.

I am being a SmartA$$, but you should ask Saleschat.
