Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

I’ve stopped taking any of this to heart

I’m approaching this job like any other, doing the work, collecting the paycheck, and taking it day by day for as long as it lasts. I don’t really care what happens to Dell anymore, or when they might decide to let me go. I’m casually exploring other opportunities, and if I get laid off before I find something else, well, I trust things will work themselves out somehow. I just don’t have the energy to keep worrying about what might happen or to keep replaying worst-case scenarios in my head. The atmosphere here has been draining for a long, long time, and it’s taken a toll on all of us. Giving in to that negativity feels completely pointless.

I don’t have the energy to keep worrying about either.
But I still can't sleep.
I tried to find job outside Dell, but it has been years and I still can't land one.

@ab This is not every job at every company. After I left Dell and started somewhere else, it became clear that Dell is a uniquely awful environment that was way worse than I realized. To anyone worried about layoffs - it will happen to you at Dell. Don't do anything casually from this point. Drive your resume to 100% ready to roll. Spiff up your LinkedIn. Actually start applying to jobs. Talk to a headhunter and identify your gaps. Get cracking on your professional certifications and trainings yesterday. Do Not Wait!

It was not always like this. It was never this bad. Continuous layoffs for the last 4 years will have an effect on people. Something has changed that is causing a lot of Tech companies to behave in the same manner.

Good job. Unfortunately you need to understand that this is EVERY job at EVERY company. The only reason a company exists is to make money for the owner and shareholders. No company cares about you personally. You’re just a number on a spreadsheet that helps them make money.

Yeah I feel like you're not alone in that mindset gone are the days of loyalty to your company and codependency in an obviously abusive relationship. Treat your company like living with an addict emotionally separate for the your own mental health...
