What CL is a low level executive?

Was told my potential is low level executive but not the number. What does this translate to?

The 34+ rank group can be quite brutal, and many VPs get a graceful exit at age 60. Half are forced into a bottom half. Some one needs to be in the bottom half of that rank group with forced ranking. Remember there is a 50% chance you work for an executive that is ranked in the bottom half of senior executives.

So many people posting here who don’t know what they’re talking about. If your boss told you low level executive, that means either 34 if you’re on managerial track or 31 if you’re on technical track. Supervisors aren’t supposed to tell you your exact potential number (although some will), but they should tell you if you’re on managerial or technical track - you should know this regardless, but if uncertain you can check with your supervisor.

Potential levels for MPT in the US are typically 25, 27, 29, 31, 33 (senior technical), 38 (senior exec) and up for the true chosen. If you’re 38 or above, just keep doing what you’re doing, make sure you have mentors and sponsors, and do whatever the company tells you.

@aa Since when? I thought it was 29, 34, or 38 after getting rid of 36 this year. Therefore 34 would be the “low level” executive potential in the current system. At least in finance.

only for white affluent males whose dads have been in exxon, and then the carrot for the d-mb blondes to do the dirty work.

They actually tell people that they are executive material early in their career? And CL potential. That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. No wonder there are so many incapable middle managers.

Don't overly focus on your pot CL, it could be just a carrot on a stick. My assigned mentor told me he has exec pot, but he's retiring as Ops manager downstream.

No such thing as low level executive potential. You’re either 36-38 potential or you’re not. Most 36-38 potential people will fizzle out in their early 40s and either be let go or accept finishing as a 29.

Your boss is lying to you. They have you pegged at 29 potential and they are rounding up to “low level executive” to make you accept it.

30-32 is low level
34-36 is mid level
38+ is VP
40+ is Sr VP and above

If they dont give you an exact number...take the hint.

Maybe you ain't cutting it. If you were you'd be running the show. Be glad you you are low level. Mid level folks are being retired. Just keep pumping gas and wiping windshields. Check the oil! Trust me.

Depending on where in your career you are, you likely will be pushed out long before that potential is reached unless you fill a specific niche that can’t be offshored. The end game of the current long term strategy views everyone but 38+ potential as disposable.
