Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Disgruntled Dell Employees should set up a walk out

Tired of our corporate leaders bullying us, bullsh-tting us, ignoring our requests for flexible work. Tired of incompetent leaders like John Roese, Jeff Clarke, and Billy Scannell still fluffing us while actually doing nothing meaningful. WE NEED A WALK OUT.

I know many don't think there's any point, and some others think it's a bad idea because they'll be let go for participating. But after being downrated into oblivion on Tell Dell and seeing them gloss over it, I am convinced they'll continue to treat us any kind of way until something is done. We need either a mass walkout or just A LOT of people to stay home from the office in protest. Any better ideas?

Unless you live someplace where this is not the case, we are all employees-at-will, and Dell could fire an employee who participated in a walkout with zero repercussions. I agree that this company su-ks, and I’m actively seeking employment elsewhere, but when I leave, I want it to be on my terms. Or at least get a severance package - which would be forfeit if fired for cause.

@a2 nobody should be adding value to a position that constantly devalues the employees within it. Don’t sit here acting like Dell pays enough to put up with this s—t.

“ I have spoken to my manager and to HR via. The response has been that they are just as fu---d as we are and there's nothing they can do about it”

Then either do the job you are compensated to do or quit. It’s really simple

Good idea. Go on then. It’ll be good for those that don’t walk out as they’ll still have jobs after the C-level folks sh----n all of the walkers. Without a union a walkout has no teeth and will only lead to walkers being fired.

If you want to know the people who won’t be joining you on the walkout then spend some time on LinkedIn. There, you will get a real feel for the boot-lickers and bluffers.

Liking posts about product they most likely didn’t even know we sell, posting about how their family uses Dell products and couldn’t be happier, drooling over MD’s posts and posting pictures of themselves with executives at Dell events! Humans go to some serious lows just to keep the cabal happy….Sad.

"use established communication channel"

What is the Reddit page name? It could be a good organizing tool if someone were willing to start the union process. Chats with interested parties could occur off the main boards if it ever got that far.

I advise against a walkout. A few years ago, a team walked out due to issues with management, only to face an HR meeting the next day where they were all terminated. That was the end of it. Instead, use established communication channels—that’s why we have leaders. Communication should flow both ways, upward and downward. Additionally, consider using a platform like Reddit to collaboratively develop strategies and ideas as a team. Keep communicating, it is part of the best strategy.

I’m very unhappy with this job but let’s not pretend anybody but us gives a sh-t about our complaints. Nobody on Reddit or the media will care about us having to go to office. They’ll make fun of us because we all make good money and most of all have jobs and still complain. We have 0 leverage. They WANT us to quit to offshore the jobs.

The post from the “neurodivergent” ex-Microsoft employee is something. Like woah they wouldn’t give you accommodations for adhd and fired you? No sh-t that’s why you keep that sh-t to yourself and deal with life like anyone else. Sounds cold but WE HAVE JOBS.

A strong union would solve alot of these issues.

@aa These are all great ideas and I'd say even more feasible. A walkout is extreme and high-risk for a lot of people. I just know we need to be willing to take measures if we want to salvage or regain some work balance.

Productivity doesn’t drop with remote/hybrid
   •   A multi-year Stanford study (Nicholas Bloom) of 1,600 workers showed hybrid workers were equally productive, had 33% lower attrition, and were no less likely to be promoted.
   •   The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that as remote work increased from 2019 to 2022, total factor productivity improved in most industries.
   •   Even public-sector remote workers saw a 12% boost in efficiency, according to a 2024 GW/LSE stud

You pro-dell people are sheep and have the memory of lint

Dell reneged on a lot of remote employees.
People moved and changed location because of dell's empty promises.
Dell liquidated amenities and never replaced them for RTO. Did not even try.
Dell sold out it's employees under the guise of 'rona. remember the vax mandate even though you were working from home??

So anyone here cheerleading for dell is pathetic at this point. I just assume you are a dell lifer and have nothing else going on.

Totally understand the frustration. Many of us are feeling the same way gaslit by leadership, ignored on RTO flexibility, and dismissed when we raise legitimate concerns on Tell Dell or in 1:1s. It’s exhausting watching tone-deaf leadership push narratives that don’t reflect the day-to-day reality most of us live in.

That said, organizing a walkout or mass protest (even a coordinated “work from home” day) has to be approached very carefully. Dell will retaliate if they see it as insubordination, and there’s little protection in Texas for that kind of action. If we want to push for real change without risking our jobs, we need smarter moves.

Some ideas:
   •   Coordinate anonymous testimonials from current employees and publish them on a central platform (Reddit, Medium, or even external slack channels if brave enough).
   •   Pressure media outlets to cover Dell’s RTO rigidity, tone-deaf leadership, and declining morale especially those who cover tech culture (Business Insider, The Verge, etc.).
   •   Band together with a unified message on Tell Dell and public review platforms like Glassdoor numbers make it harder to ignore.
   •   Consider filing group ethics or HR complaints. One person can be brushed off. Dozens create a paper trail.
   •   Start private slack or Discord communities to plan, share info, and protect each other.

Change won’t come from hoping leadership has a change of heart. But it can come from organized, relentless pressure with safety and strategy.

Dell’s biggest fear isn’t a walkout. It’s losing control of the narrative.

They don’t respect us. This may be defeatist but let’s not forget there’s people in this world that would probably ki-l to have this job and life we have, regardless of how leadership treats them. Make the best of what you have here while you can.

@a2 my business has grown every quarter and I have hit my past 3 quarters and a week away from the finish line this quarter. I bring great value to my role and my customers can attest. Apologies for trying to offer common sense to an already-terrible work style given we're in 2025 and working like it's 90s all over again

Cruel, really? Lol you think it'd be cruel to stage a walkout for better work flexibility? I bet you think WFH was unethical too then

@a2+1jzr2rkpw is a perfect example why this won't work at Dell.

A company full of people who would be just as cruel as Jeff if given the position.

They never made it to the top and it's made them so jaded they want everyone else to suffer with them.
