Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon is a Gold-level Military Friendly Employer CROCK...Was at one time but not now

Facts from this VZ Vet (Yes, service connected disabilities)

  1. They gave us choice of Veteran VZ t-shirts this November to thank us for our service
  2. The Team gave me a nice physical card (Not AI or virtual) thanking me for my service on V Day. Very thoughtful
  3. 8 days later got the call...Sayonara...kick in the teeth is the December 19th off payroll. I guess we needed the funds from my HUGE salary for the Swede we didn't need 40M and the other two 4M to "stay on" LOL. Merry Xmas
AI Search "Reasons Verizon is good for hiring disabled veterans:
Military-friendly recognition: Verizon is a Gold-level Military Friendly Employer, recognized for its commitment to hiring, retaining, and advancing veterans."

Were employees required to train with AI just weeks before being laid off? Interesting read.

@a9 A I means we need to adjust to a 16-hour workweek as a means of keeping employment levels, a post-scarcity economy.

@ab I served. Iraq. Afghanistan. Have a rating. Verizon owes me no special treatment for being a veteran. If anything, I expect myself to be more resilient and bounce back. Expecting special treatment for our service makes us look entitled. Be proud of what you did and move on.

@aa in addition anyone with a service connected rating above zero percent has an advantage over their peers impacts. We have career services, non profits, and a little bit of cash coming in every month. Not to mention hiring preference with the government.

Want to do the veteran thing? Set the example. Lead. Start a business and hire others.

You are conflating two totally separate issues. Verizon has way too many people to start with and Ai is going to make that even more true. It has to downsize materially to survive at all. Secondly your service, which is laudable, but in no way excuses you from the economic forces that affect the company as a whole and therefore many many jobs.

@a2 let me guess, you "were gonna join but mommy wouldn't be there change your diaper in boot camp." How does it feel to be a coward? Do you send your wife to check on strange noises at night?

I'm sorry that this happened. We invited men and women like you to apply, we boasted about taking care of vets, and then we don't. I wish you all the best. Thank you for your service.

Sounds like Verizon is ending its DEI program like it promised. Why does your military service matter again?

What’s really hilarious is that they’re going to ask you to give back or discard that Verizon T-shirt
