Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

TLDR of the town hall:

RTO in the future and more layoffs

At least Ellison is somewhat nice about it but it’s coming

lol

I’m just waiting for the town hall when our robot ceo starts glitching.

What about those poor remote workers? What will they do?

If the Town Hall speech was written by AI it would sound more human and believable.

@b3 Because Hollywood is literally all he cares about. Because being a Hollywood hotshot is the dream he's had since he was a wee lad. First he thought he'd be the next Tom Cruise, so Papa bought him a movie to co-star in; but Papa couldn't buy talent. So on he went to being a "producer," using Papa's money to buy his way into getting a title on some terrible movies before he lucked into a couple of good ones and parlayed that into buying his way into a credit on much better movies. Now he gets to play Hollywood CEO, but the thing is: he still can't act, and this is a much bigger part he's trying to play.

@ae what makes you think NY office is out?

@OP he was not nice about it. He thinks good decisions can only be made in person. What a clown.

@a3 I mean, all we need to know is that "restructuring" is coming. That most likely means closing down most of the NY HQ since I'm sure they're planning to move most ops to LA. This means layoffs for most NY employees outside of CBS, but I'm sure they will be impacted as well.

I would think they'd do it sooner rather than later. Why keep people on for the rest of the year when the company is already up to their ears in debt, about $9B to be exact.

I’m so confused as to how people are liking this man. Honestly it seems like a good portion of you have forgotten who he was with at these UFC fights or that the 3 CEO’s were also making decisions on his behalf. He’s not your friend.

@a7 Exactly! Just tell us the timeline so the staff can prepare. Some say September. Others say November. He talks about being upfront and transparent and cannot even provide some more specifics. Infuriating.

How exactly was he nice about it??

He was trying to come across as relatable by speaking about his experiences when he was young to justify a RTO. His family comes from extreme wealth, none of his experiences will be relatable.

He never had to worry about being in office because he is not the working class.

Just because he uses flowery language to soften the blow doesn’t mean we’re not getting stabbed.

I didn’t get the impression there would be a mandatory RTO. He just said he likes office? Also if he’s so “clear” wouldn’t he have just said yes RTO 5 days a week?

As messed up as everything has been/is, I have to admit it is nice to see someone other than Chris McCarthy in this type of position. I loved when he said im not going to make the kind of short term mistakes that previous leadership did.

I love the idea of return to office, and aiming to make paramount actually succeed.

Obviously I'll probably be let go so that su-ks, and im still disheartened by the companys capitulation to trump. But its a complex mix of emotions, and other than all the bad feelings, there is a big part of me that honestly really likes David Ellison and is glad to see him up there. I mean at least he's actually been involved with filmmaking before.

I thought he was super honest and straight forward unlike the three amigos. I figured he would take BS questions but they employee ones were exactly what people wanted to hear.

I wish he would have suggested a timeline of when RTO and layoffs will come so we're not so much in the dark.

How did we actually learn nothing???? I’m so upset. “We’re going to be as clear and direct with you as possible.” See also: “we’re not actually going to lay out any of our plans and continue leaving you all in the dark.”
