@3pd the beginning of the end for Garbage Grove was when they tried to bring in off-site waste to use the incinerator at full capacity and were rebuffed by local and state officials.

Then it was shutdown in 2021, taking away an important asset that kept the site afloat. It is definitely dying a slow death. I suspect BB will want to keep it open under a smaller manufacturing footprint so that it won't be declared a Superfund site as easily.

After what happened in St. Paul after the union balked at changes pushed under cost controls imposed by Mcnerney, the site should be willing to kiss butt to the company and just be happy some will be able to hit pension before more things are mothballed.

@g7 Just out of curiosity, if it is so easy why hasn’t it been done? Surely they would want to get rid of the expensive labor? Is remediation cost the big factor? Proximity to HQ? I mean somebody has to have some insight on this. FF sure, but what about the line exclusive to CG. (Name of Dinosaur) I can see the big picture; this site is dying for sure. What is it holding 3M back from pulling the plug?

As close to union-busting as legally possible. That shows who wields the power.

@1ej st. Paul abrasives. Another Jimbo Mcnerney special. Moved jobs to Brazil and broke many hearts. But hey Jimbo got a few extra million. For his "bold" moves laying off 1000s. Then he went to almost destroy Boeing, with planes falling out of the sky thanks to his pennypinching ways.

Maybe so but reports from non-union 3M plants using CBRE for maintenance are not too happy with them.
However, they claim the union was the reason for all the East Side getting shipped overseas back in the day.

@1e1 welcome to BB world of Minnesota Nasty. He can't be bothered with the peons making 3M billions per year when he has to decide which caviar he will have Friday night with his cronies that he hired into 3M. Dude has a lavish yacht in Florida. Pensions are a drain on his bonuses plus those of his friends.

Unfortunately, 3M fckd EVERYONE'S pension once and for all at the same time. The Union had no say in it. Negotiate? By law, yes. Will it stop what has already happened, don't hold your breath.

@g7

The FF equipment isn't going anywhere anytime soon as it underpins too many sales, roughly $1B SVOP that can't be outsourced.

Moving or replacing the FF units (and other more trade secret) abrasives equipment is easily a nine-figure investment if, and that is a big if, another place would grant the emissions approval for it.

The union is a bunch of id--ts. If you don't think they will replace them with CBRE, JLL, etc you are d-mb. If they keep messing around, they will eventually find out.

Idk why the USW thinks they have a leg to stand on. CH is easily the easiest plant to move out of. We just need wastewater at this point. Everything else is portable and with the call to cut industrials that FF abrasives line is a cheap and easy cut.

Careful what you reject. You aren’t seeing the big picture.

United Steelworkers is the union, feel free to reach out to them. I'm sure they would love to help Hutch unionize.

Us curious production pheasants in Hutch are inquiring what union Cottage Grove is part of.

Pretty sure BB wants to sc--w over union employees pensions like he did to salary employees. Stick to your g-ns. He cannot force thru the pension changes without a union vote for it.
