Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

How is your PIP going? Mine is terrible.

I just had my second check in with my great champion supervisor. Well it is not going so good. I am dependent on training with another employee for one of the tasks. This person has been out on vacation for three weeks and not trained me at all. This employee also shows no enthusiasm to help me at all. I have asked the supervisor for help but not gotten any. I talked to hr and was told the supervisor was in charge of the pip plan. It really feels like they are setting me up to fail the pip. I cannot complete one of the task without guidance from this employee. I am keeping all documentation and meeting notes. In am thinking of getting a lawyer to look at them and or intervene. I am in my late 40's and have 10 years plus in. I was never encouraged to try the pip and was pushed to take the pil and leave.My supervisor seems bothered by the whole thing and shows no care or encouragement for me passing. The hr rep is even worse.I was told I could give up and convert to pil and leave if I feel as if I am not going to be successful.

40+ is a "protected class", which is the reason for high pressure to get you to leave on your own accord. You'll most likely fail the PIP. However, they'll be very sensitive to any potential case you can make against them. Fight fire with fire, ask questions, save all correspondence, record all conversations with your supervisor and team members. Look gir anything small and then when you get told you failed, threaten them with both g-ns blazing and an attorney. You'll have nothing to lose at that point.

OP - they want you GONE. Your "team member" has been made aware that is the case and it's in their best interest to drag their feet on your success, regardless of your efforts. Not much will save you. At this point, try to cut a deal with your supervisor on something extra, above and beyond, whatever it is. That's your only hope. The system is rigged, it ain't fair.

Best of luck to you

They do not want me but have to put up with me for 2 more years. I cannot be fired at nre. They are trying to break me by focusing on my weaknesses and not on my strengths. So we will play this game for at least two more years. After two years I will self pip myself outa here.

I do not know why you selected PIP, but the only thing that I know it is that they do mot want you.

Age is a protected class. I was piped and there are only young ones in my group. I can learn the process myself but it pi---s me off that i am not getting help. Remember the goal is to improve my performance not to get rid of me. I love that bs script the supervisor preaches. We are here for you and help in any way. I have to document and schedule my bi monthly meeting with this snake. I know I can pass but exxon is making it he-l for me.

@OP when I consulted a lawyer, it was a waste of time and money. I was an at will employee and not a protected class. Lawyer advised against signing the indemnification document, so that would prevent the PIL cash out. Ended up leaving and it was the right decision. The group I was in was gutted over the next several months...

The goal of the outcome is predetermined before you make a decision on PIP or PIL- HR asks your supervisor if they want you as a team member long term.

Some are put in NSI because the rank group actually is competitive and they were forced to stick someone there, but the supervisor really wants them to stay and will help them pass.

Some are put in NSI and the goal is to downsize the group or push unwanted team members out the door. Sounds like you are intentionally not getting help, especially if you were encouraged to take the PIL.

Remember your PIP wording was reviewed by HR and Legal before it was given to you…. Has anyone ever won a wrongful dismissal case against Exxon? I don’t know.

@ OP: so sorry you’re going through this. Hope lawyering up is an option for you, and they realize you won’t go w/o a fight. That might help with getting the support & engagement you need to be successful in passing the PIP. Or, laying a solid case for constructive discharge.

@OP You’ve been set up for failure and you should start looking for another job today if you’re not already.

PIP = Paid Interview Process.
