Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

RTO is d-mb af

Yes, I know it's been a year and change but it's pointless for some of us. I get the RTO for certain teams I suppose but for those who are on teams/orgs that are literally GLOBAL it makes zero sense.

I drive an hour to work daily only to "collaborate" IN PERSON, with ONE person whom lives 15 mins from the office. What do we collaborate on, you ask? Absolutely fkn nothing! Unless you count gossip, and bi--hing about Dell as collaborating, anyways...

Oh but then, we have to join VIRTUAL meetings because 99% of the team is... remote or in fkn Europe, or other parts of the USA!

I just love driving 320 miles/week and tolls to go sit next to a coworker for 10 hours/week, though. If I know he's not going in or is on PTO, I don't go in. At the very minimum I make the drive and coffee badge because f that bs. I get every bit as much work done at home while playing video games all day than I do sitting in the office watching netflix on my phone.

@OP

For all described, when you first got the job, did you have to do all the travelling and pay the tolls?

Lousy Managers micro-Manage, thinking that they need to 'show value' and are afraid to hire talent that can self-Manage and deliver! My time at Dell showed me that that's all they had for Managers.

Funniest part to me is I was held to much higher standards for both quality and quantity of work when working from home. Now I roll into the office around 9:30 and do 2-3 hours of half-assed work then go home and nap until 4:00-4:30 then answer a few emails to make it look like I worked until 5.

@bs (how appropriate!)

Which category below do you most closely align with?

1)Micromager/Tinpot Dictator - gets most of their personal satisfaction from controlling other people and having power over them

2) Bootlicker/Toady - a person who enjoys backstabbing and spying on people and who su-ks up to persons in Category 1

3) S-xist/predator men - sees a job as a place to hit on women and look for companies run by someone in Category 1 to either protect them or be their wingman.

or..or..or...you can be happy you still have a job when others don't. When you're unemployed and cannot find another job, your tune will change. People have been unemployed for over a year, burned through their savings, and you complain you have to drive into an empty office. Please shut your mouth or find a new job. It's pretty simple.

@a4 Very true but, as long as you play it smart then you are good to go... I actually enjoy being in the office for a few hours but see no point in more than 2 hours. So, I either make the drive and swipe and go home, or I stay for 2 hours and am home by 1pm.

Unless or until they start monitoring for time IN office, that is what I'll be doing. Yes they can already monitor your time in office but it's an accurate representation.

They can install badge out devices but, Dell is far too cheap to do that so that's out of the question. Paying for thousands of devices + labor to install them, just to see who badges out of a building? LOL yeah... that will NEVER happen.

Yes, they can see if you are connected to VPN and/or an internal Dell IP address but, a LOT of people (I have two computers) have more than one computer so.. leave one in a drawer all day and never go into the office. Work from home on the computer you use the most.

And with Always-on-VPN, you stay connected for 30 days without an auto disconnect. Not to mention just putting a simple screen share program on your computer in which you can control via home... Most are blocked but, many are not. OR just install a backdoor trojan if you are good with coding and detection evasion lmfao.

@a1 It's a worthy topic even if it has been covered 230 times. Most people don't need to be in office 5 days a week. I'm happy that you are happy going in 5 days a week but, most people are not. I'm happy that you enjoy spending unnecesary money to go to an office that is empty by 11:30am but, most people are not. I'm happy that you are thriving on your new SCP plan, but most people are not.

@OP It's not about being in the office for improved productivity. It never was. It's about making you so pi---d off that you quit voluntarily. That way Dell doesn't have to pay severance.

@a1 Do you drive two hours a day, 5 days/week to go sit alone in an office? Do you drive 2 hours/day to go join virtual meetings that can be done on a cell phone/at home? Are you paying $300-400 a month for gas and tolls simply to be in office for a few hours with no hopesof promotions or raises that are equal to or above inflation?

Lucky for me, I'm in an org that is likely FAR more protected from layoffs than your cr-ppy org, though so.. come back with that attitude when you get laid off big boy.

Hows that new SCP working out for you big boy? Hows that 5x8 hour work week going for ya so far?
