Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

There will be 2 Rounds of Layoffs

Believe it or not. But the upcoming layoffs on november 20th is just the first round. The company is still planning to finish q4 sales strong, so they aren’t intending to hit front line workers hard at first. Expect the second round around late Q1 2026 5k-10k layoffs. These numbers will be determined by how the business has performed post the Nov cuts.

Dont get too complacent, this is just the way of life now in corporate america. With the age of AI & the current economy, cutting cost is the first prio to companies. Stay strong & work hard, everyone is replaceable & no one is entitled to having a job if you’re not contributing enough value.

Im sure everyone has different experiences through their respective channel. I’ll tell you about mine in VCG / VBG sales experience. Traffic has drastically dropped after covid. And then accelerated year over year after that. In VBG i can easily say less than 50% of sales rep are currently hitting a 100% quota on their yearly trend. This may be from different causes, but at the end of the day. I do believe top performers wish they can tap in to more territories for more grass to eat off. And this is exactly what will happen. Cut the low performers and pass on bigger territories to the remaining reps so that can they expand the opportunities. Without a base salary increase. Lower cost for Verizon (less reps to pay). I can also tell you that there are just too many pointless positions within the VBG/VCG space that can be simplified using the remaining work force with AI implementations. All you people saying “Dont use AI as an excuse” have no idea what you’re talking about. I’ve been using AI tools and it definitely cut my workload by 20% in Sales. And also there are a lot of vets within the space getting paid 30-50% more base salary than me & yet they are at the bottom of the performance leaderboard. Do you think that is fair? In all fairness everything we’re seeing is just business. There is no such thing as family this and that. All that matters is, what is your ROI to the business.

Have witnessed 1Q/3Q layoffs nearly every year for the last 3-5 years. 2024's VSP only shed 4800 employees.

This one:
Anon leaks to multiple news outlets stated 15k heads chopped within days of publicly denying layoffs.
CWA have declared surplus and given severance, that was confirmed and wraps up Nov 25, 2025.
Groups within GNT, 15% across the board since Verizon no longer values their network.

@a6 "they haven't reduced overall headcount in over a decade grandpa"

You are correct. This grandpa always took note of headcount in the FEC filings. Thousands of RIFs yearly but the headcount was nearly the same, year after year. When a $100k employee is replaced with a $60k employee it makes the spreadsheet pretty.

Some act like this is the first time such massive cuts have happened. Wake up.
CONTEL>GTE>VZ here - every year thousands of RIFs, some years more than others. I can recall at least four 10-15% reductions, three where I had to end people's careers and one where I was tapped on the shoulder. RIF and VZ are synonymous, always has been and always will be.

Stop using Dan’s AI decoy to justify layoffs. Real AI takes time to develop and optimize, it can’t be hired from PayPal or pulled out of a CEO’s sleeve.
No system exists today that can replace 15% of the workforce. AI is just a buzzword masking the truth: employees don’t matter, only investors do, as Verizon Chairman Mark Bertolini admitted last week.

AI won’t save VZ. When I use AI to choose the best most cost effective wireless service I guarantee VZ is not the 1st or 2nd choice. AI will be used against Dan and his vision. He doesn’t think consumers are using AI in the same way to make personal financial decisions? This will backfire just like the overpriced My Plans which drove consumers to disconnect and go to T-Mo.
