That once we shed 15k people, things will suddenly turn around, we'll become more profitable, the stock's going to skyrocket, and all that jazz? Because we've had layoffs before, and all they ever did was leave the people who stayed with even more work. That's it. Oh, and the people at the top got fat bonuses. Which explains a lot.

@a6 That must be why things have gone so well after the semi annual purges we have every year.
This sounds like a good question for perplexity before going to the dinner table.
When I see all these DEI/ERG groups that have time to create meditation sessions and constantly write « culture » articles, I’m like yeah, maybe this was needed…
@ad Part of the problem is people feeling ‘safe’. No one is safe, ever, and the sooner you’ll recognize this the better. WE have to perform, and VZ is definitely not performing
I doubt it. The Hatchet Man has succeeded in making Verizon employees feel unsafe and disengaged. We are now fearful of our livelihood and are secretly updating resumes and applying to new jobs on the side. This is not the recipe for a successful company.
@ab Isn’t that exactly what happened? Hans got FIRED…..
@a9 what's all this "we" cr-p, you got an executive in your front pocket?
WE meet and exceed our goals, the people who actually do work in this company get pointed in a direction, told to "go" and we execute.
If the direction everyone was pointed in was wrong, that's leadership's problem. Hold them accountable and tell the laborers the RIGHT thing to do if the PayPal crew is so smart.
I bet the majority of those that go are over 50 and long timers.
@a8 It isn’t about ‘appeasing’ Wall Street you d-mb f. It is because we have become fat and slow and inefficient and are not winning customers any more. It’s time to fish or cut bait, get our sh-t together, become fast and efficient and look a bit more like how Frontier have turned things around.
This isn’t about fixing Verizon, it’s about appeasing Wall Street. No AI system exists today that can replace 15% of the workforce. You don’t lay off thousands and then start building the tech.
Dan’s desperate AI pitch is just a blanket of fake hope to buy time and power.
It'll do nothing for a long time. Layoffs are the only way to get money from issuing AI. Now that we're smaller they can focus the AI training on who's remaining which will give better results and lead the way for the next layoff.
Absolutely will. Everyone is going to work harder and we will see less churn and growth. They don't do these things for no reason. Ppl have become complacent and when you displace them, they get their sh-t together.
Don’t be such a child. Turn-arounds take many years but it starts with getting the right cost structure. And even after 15k RIFs VZ will still be MASSIVELY too big..
Yes it will put a lot of people into therapy
