Just a matter of time before all call centers are AI driven. Customer service is just one of the many areas of the economy that you do not want to be employed in now.. Would you rather be laid off because your job went overseas ? or because AI replaced you ?.....Potato, potahhto....

@11y haven't read this act but see that the post also said NO tax deduction. guessing that means companies won't be able to deduct these costs as business expenses. for this company the next question would be if these costs could still be used towards the ACA 80/20 rule. these 2 things could add up to big money.
@11f even paying 25% tax on a foreign wage of $6/hour is still a lot cheaper than paying someone in the states $18
Unfortunately...
@OP with US jobs grown flat and predicted to go negative there are signs of change. The HIRE act is a start. It’s got a long way to go to pass but it shows the federal government is finally being forced to place some barriers to offshoring. The HIRE act places a 25% tax on ALL foreign wages with NO tax deduction closing the loophole.
@ma LOL. I can tell by your comments that you have no clue and should be ignored!
American Corporations have sold out long ago in trade for Large Lakehomes and Fancy Yachts for a few. And now the country is led by a convict. Not exactly a recipe for success for the masses.
It's a small thing I know but every time I have to call a 'support center' the first thing I tell them is to transfer me to someone in the US. Imagine if that became a thing. :)
@a6+1k4eqhwmy - There will be an uptick of H1-Bs to be compliant while still giving preference to cheaper non American labor.
You mean AI robot American. Human routine jobs are not coming back.
Call centers will come back… as AI integrated IVR. Omaha was famous for being the call center hub due to ridiculously low wages and no accents, but it will be all automated if it has to come back
My last job before coming here was a bank working to have the IVR handle every call except outright threats to sue, which were always cold transferred to our equivalent of an L 29+ conflict resolution person.
Human Call Centers and Support are dying a fast death . America is racing towards Isolationism
Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08) and Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) recently introduced the bipartisan Keep Call Centers in America Act of 2025. This bill, supported by Democrats and Republicans, will discourage companies from shipping call center jobs overseas, protect American jobs and consumers, and ensure quality service. Senators Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) and Jim Justice (R-WV) have introduced companion legislation in the Senate.
The Keep Call Centers in America Act of 2025 would:
Require businesses to notify the Department of Labor (DOL) before relocating a call center overseas.
Empower the DOL to keep a public list of employers that have relocated call center work overseas and make them ineligible for new federal grants and federally guaranteed loans.
Direct agencies to give preference to U.S. employers that are not on the list when awarding contracts, and require that all call center work performed on federal contracts be conducted in the U.S.
Require call center workers to tell customers where the call center is and/or whether artificial intelligence is being used. The worker is then required to transfer the customer to a call center in the U.S. if they request it.
Require a DOL report on the amount of, and location of, federal call center work and the job losses associated with AI use.
AI will get rid of whitecollar jobs. Elon will automate the blue collar jobs with robots. Then the world will be owned by dozen companies and we will all report to companies .. not nations. That is the evolution of mankind.
