Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

I hate this place

How long do we have to deal with "promotions" based on who you drink with, not what you deliver? We just got another one of those, and now the whole team’s fixing his mistakes. Its infuriating. How many times will we repeat this before someone admits it’s broken?

Exactly just a little more than bare minimum provides an excellent work life balance and adequate pay. Most people (including me) don’t figure this out till our late 40’s. My wealth is generated by scrupulous savings and investments. The paycheck cover my bills and travel and is an ends to means. I’ll be done in 2 years.

Promo….for what? The work vs. reward is off kilter. You get a 2/2 and get a whole 3K. After taxes, its 2K. You might as well keep it. I mean if the company is doing so bad that all they can afford is 3K for a ranking of 2/2, you might as well keep it. Why put in the long hours like we do? for what? Only to sit back and watch Jane move chess pieces around with the board in order to squeeze out record pay increases for herself.

In other companies, if you have to layoff as a strategy its considered a failure. Poor forecasting, poor planning etc….gotta layoff, a failure. Out of those companies, not all but mostly, the failure is NOT rewarded. The CEO might get the same bonus\raise as the previous year but not a huge raise. At Citi though, its a different story. All in all, why bust your @ss and put in long hours only to possibly be placed on a layoff list while others get rewarded for nothing.

Work just hard enough to keep from getting fired.

It is the same everywhere man. Just how the corporate world works nowadays. Career growth has close to zero correlation with your performance, in fact I would argue it is negative - the more time you spend working hard, the less time you spend socializing and promoting your brand :D It is bullsh-t all the way - only way to avoid that is to build your own business. In fact, many people nowadays even generate pointless work to get the promotion - that is another problem, so you could be "working" hard, but in fact doing BS work to look busy - especially now with AI BS many people are trying to capitalize on that :D
