Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Some benefits of RTO that may help motivate you

  1. Collaboration: Being in the office can make face-to-face meetings and spontaneous brainstorming easier.
  2. Culture building: Physical presence can help new hires integrate and reinforce company values.
  3. Visibility: Managers can see work happening and provide real-time feedback.
  4. Team cohesion: Shared space can strengthen relationships and alignment across teams.
  5. Structured environment: For some roles, having a dedicated workspace helps employees stay focused and productive.

You see how these are all good things? Just RTO 5 days as you’re asked and we can turn this company around. Cmon guys. It might even be fun!

@a9 You must be one of the few that doesn't understand the company or what it takes to run. Verizon never wanted us to work 9-5 or in the office. Company policy-Home Base with extra pay each month. After hours extra pay, Weekend extra pay. On call pay. Since you're so low on the pole maybe try moving up and understanding what Verizon provides as a company to the world.

My office has no people in it besides me (when I actually go) so no collaboration going on...and my mgr. is in a different state

@OP

there are zero benefits to forced rto. if it was so wonderful, there'd be no need for a mandate. we'd all be chomping at the bit for another in-office experience.

there are many downsides but the worst surely has to be the increased odds of running into an odious bootlicker like you. that's why i'll stay wfh indefinitely.

have fun with your company culture rallies and awkward hallway conversations. i'll invest my time more wisely.

RTO and WFH have not created this mess Verizon is in. If real estate is a major cost to Verizon then they should look to downsize and intelligently manage office attendance. Teams are so dispersed now geographically that most are spread across offices and even countries. The best approach is to look at it team by team and individual’s personal circumstances and hey…crazy idea why not ask employees what they like to do and what works best for them?

I just love RTO! Especially since I am the only team member on my project in the region. I can't wait to drive 60-75 minutes each way to sit in a noisy open floor plan desk and only interact with my team in webex meetings and on slack.

Kindly work 9-5 M-F as prescribed. Been done over a century. Remote work once again is for social deviants that don't like to interact with people and office collaboration is needed for long term success of the team.

The biggest benefit by far will be hearing all the b!tching and mo@ning from the wfh snowflakes! I can not wait!!! I'm gonna be recording so I can enjoy it whenever I like.

@a5 thing of the pass but apparently nearly every major company including the government even under Biden is requiring it. As much as I want to do my laundry while on a call internationally or take a two hour lunch and go to the gym, those days are gone. If you care for the environment so much, quit. I bet you won't. Quit and go on LinkedIn and try to find a fully remote job.

Judging by this sample of replies Verizon’s culture has been destroyed by Team Hans! Every major bank/Tech firm is 5 days per week in office.

Verizon was buikt on Ma Bell Legacy of Customer first. I was lucky enough to have exerienced both pre and post diverstiture. So was Dan.. hoping he can exterminate soft woke attitudes and get back to the culture of Customer first and meritocracy.

Now do what everyone has done for 100 yesrs… put air in your tires, gas in the tank and get to work

Given who we are, all of this can and should be done virtually. Slack, Webex, Google Sheets and docs.

RTO has a negative impact on the environment. Provides more opportunities for traffic accidents and exposes you to more germs.

The office workplace is a thing of the past and Verizon should be leading the way to the future.

What benefits would I have driving over an hour to be in the office (hub) when hardly anyone I interact with during my day to day is not in the same location?
