Thread regarding Texas Instruments Inc. layoffs

How to prepare?

Any advise on what to expect when it happens? Am I really driving into the site for this?

@a6 all the traffic is monitored, using a google drive is not wise. We had a case when a formal colleague did this before submitting his resume. TI Lawyers chased him down ... (he reportedly did not take any extra sensitive stuff but he still copied some of his work that he thought is "his" and it is OK to take it).

When moments like this happen it matters to prepare in two ways. One is how to handle it if you are impacted. The other is how to handle it if those around you are.

If it happens to you keep it clean. Do not take company files or data. That can lead to real problems later. Instead focus on what you bring to the table. The same skills, drive, and innovation that got you here in the first place are still yours. In your layoff meeting or with HR ask questions. What are my options. Is there any support or guidance available for next steps. Even if the answer is no it is better to know than to guess.

If it happens to those around you know that work will get tighter and in some cases cheaper labor may step in. That makes it even more important to respect what your teammates have built and carry forward the quality and integrity they showed.

I have seen people turn times like this into opportunity. It does not feel like it now but for many this will become the start of something new and better. Layoffs do not erase talent. They redirect it. The people here are too good not to land on their feet.

Change any personal systems (finance etc) that are using your TI email. If you’re let go you will lose email access to any authentication emails etc.

@a5 great advice. I was let go a few years ago, but had enough notice to interview outside and inside. One of my friends years ago was let go and treated it like the end of the world for a few months. Then he got another job and shot up to Director at a small company and rode that for a decade until the company closed. He went a lot further than if he'd been retained.

Go early and pack/consolidate your important items. Similarly, your data on laptops - get it out before tomorrow; drop your files into googl drive

@OP stay calm, dont psyche yourself out, it might not happen to you.

If it does, don’t burn bridges, don’t overreact, don’t take it out on people who had nothing to do with it (your family, your friends). Don’t get a DWI, don’t wreck your car, don’t do damage to yourself or others.
