A message from Schwab Leadership

It’s laughable that the same firm pushing psychological safety training sent out that long-winded, cr-ppy email reminding everyone they’re replaceable. Do these jokers really think they’re fooling anyone with this kind of messaging?

However meaningless any post on this site may be, at least it’s at least a place for us to process leadership’s gaslighting emails and remind ourselves we’re not crazy for seeing what’s right in front of us. The message is clear that what really matters to “leadership” is control, real estate, and cutting headcount without spending a dime.

That long-winded, buzzword filled email trying to convince us that culture and connection still matter didn’t work because in the same message they said: Culture and connection matter unless you live near a “space-constrained location”, or you’re remote due to a medical accommodation… then you can stay for now, but don’t get comfortable.

It is pretty clear they are working on determining how to eliminate those folks without paying severance so just stand by for a follow up email. The clowns are working on finalizing that draft with legal to avoid any ADA lawsuits.

And everyone else please be aware that your continued presence is a privilege. Don’t forget to express your gratitude for being allowed to stay and work in the office, while leadership figures out how to eliminate enough of you (severance-free obviously) to hit the balance sheet target numbers.

This isn’t about people. Well it’s about certain people. It’s about the folks in the EC and their obsession with power and money. Apparently, no matter how much wealth they accumulate, it’s never enough so they have to remind us who’s in charge with “A message from Schwab Leadership” emails.

Yesterday we got to see Rick executing on his McKinsey values, “Control is everything. Respect can be bought. And people are replaceable.” Schwabs updated guiding principles!

@a5 The funniest thing is this is EXACTLY the defense that leadership would use. "Uhhh it's a business, if it saves us one single dollar we will ruin your life, because that's what a business is." Well it's great to know that literally none of us matter at all. Remember all that talk about culture, belonging, seeing through client's eyes? That's all a complete and total lie, as long as we can keep a few extra bucks we're gonna make your life he-l. Oh and when you quit, we're going to replace you with people working in a foreign country for half your wages. Because it's a business, and if you think this is morally wrong and destroying what's left of American labor then you just haven't pulled yourself up by your bootstraps enough.

@a5 no one’s arguing that it’s a business. What’s insulting is sending out that long message from leadership pretending it’s about culture and collaboration for those near an office.

Shocker! They’re running the business… like a business.

Schwab EC has made it clear since the final batch of TDA conversions that the only thing they care about is appeasing shareholders, and investing in the wellbeing of the employees isn't on their minds at all. Mission critical systems are going down regularly, zero accountability in place for managers and individual contributors who consistently we-ponize their incompetence, annual raises don't even account for inflation or increases in our health insurance premiums, and any suggestions to improve policies, procedures, or our work environment almost always fall on deaf ears.
