Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

It happened, I signed the paperwork. I'm out.

Oregon RA, got a call to stop work to meet my SGL. No surprises, I knew it was coming. All in all, the package is good and I'm thankful to have some free time. I was getting burned out and looking for another job anyhow, so this comes as a relief.
It looks like our group of techs are getting cut pretty heavily, over 20%. I wouldn't want to be in the group staying, running back to back jobs. I'm not entirely ecstatic, but I would prefer to get the package and move on.
All the best to my homies!

@a5 LOL Intel is avoiding bad press now, really?! Do you even read anything online? There's no avoiding that because the entirety of the internet knows Intel is taking a dump. Not sure why so many people think that Intel is fooling everyone and pulling a fast one. Individual states will respond as they see fit, if you have a complaint then file it. But unless you work for state of OR/CA/AZ/NM then you can go back to your cubicle and at least try to get back in touch with reality.

OP is joining a rapidly expanding group who, once they get over the shock & fear of the unknown, will realize they're much better off.

Congrats OP and good luck. Give yourself a nice vacation somewhere. Someday you will look back and be glad you got out of Intel, and that too with severance package.

@ae There are thousands of employees doing their absolute best for Intel every day. Blaming them for the poor decisions of "leadership" is just silly. employees have no say over the misjudgments and failures of the ELT.

@a8 The current DOL is in the business of eliminating regulations. They don’t give a sh-t about enforcing anything unless the company is a personal enemy of the president.

@a7

That’s beside the point of course the states are aware. It’s state law to file a warn act notice to provide those affected ample time to find new employment.

Intel is in violation of the Warn Act and is now subject to steep fines and opens them up for a class action lawsuit. It is blatantly illegal to perform this scale of layoffs and not formally announce it via the proper channels.

@a5 I'm pretty sure the states involved know that Intel is laying off people. Glad folks are getting a package, Intel is not required to do that. Good luck to everyone!

@a3 that's a nice package for those who has many dependants. A family or 5 would get a 50k payout! Very nice!

@a3 that’s sc-mmy af about trying to get around the warn act. File a complaint with the state this is 100% a layoff and this is them avoiding bad press.

@a1 you can literally search “separation payout estimator” on circuit and there’s an excel spread sheet you fill out. Generally if you’ve been there 5-6 years you’ll get around 30k + all PTO cashed out. If you’re night shift it also takes into account your differential and that would be like 35k-40k depending on your paygrade.

More than enough to float most of us for 6 months or so while you look for a new job.

4 weeks pay through July plus 1.5 weeks per year of service.
9 weeks pay in leu of redeployment.
12 months COBRA, but you can decline for a $10k payout + $10k per dependent.
eligible for rehire
eligible for unemployment

Some other small benefits tacked on. They told me to keep my phone , badge, and laptop. My assumption is I'm still "employed" so they don't have to send WARN notice for Oregon.
