I don't believe OP is being all that transparent.
It seems they are targeting top earners.
I can tell you they are consolidating cube space and clearing out spaces for engineers to RTO.
I know it su-ks because this is our livelihood and whatnot.
But why do yall keep thinking they owe us transparency? We are numbers on a spreadsheet. We are mere cogs in a giant machine.
A military general doesn’t tell the private ranks what the plan is. Microsoft doesn’t tell coders, programmers or engineers what the grand scheme is. Literally no company does that.
If the lowest ranks of your employees know intimate details of your plan then so does your enemy, your rival, your competitors.
Like I get it su-ks, but surely you all understand why he’s not having 1:1 with technicians to talk about his plan…
Remote workers are next. Don’t be stupid and be surprised 3 months from now that all remote workers have to move to a site or be terminated. Even if you move no guarantee you won’t be on the next layoff!

@a4 Does anyone know if workers who have been fully remote for years but have agreed and made plans to come back to the office are being targeted? Definitely don't want to move across the country and sign a new lease if the job won't be there next week.
@a3 This. Look back over the last couple of years at Intel: We're going to cut your salaries. We'll restore them eventually, but you'll get no reward for putting up with it. We're taking all of your perks away. We're taking your dividends, the look back feature for the stock purchase plan, the bonuses. What? You're still here? Fine, we're taking away your free coffee. You're STILL here??? How about we require everyone who we've told for years could be fully remote to start coming back into the office? How about we let it leak that we're doing layoffs, then don't give you any answers. How about a year of not knowing if you'll have a job? What else do we have to do to get you to quit?
The mental torture is the goal. Anything to get as many of us to consider quitting.
