Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

When are the cuts happening?

Enterprise tech, Wealth, WI, Brokerage have been tightening the belt it seems.

They already know who's on chopping block with Boston office relocating to sea port, NC already at capacity.

So why not let associates know who's impacted?

There are people in the team who barely do anything, never show their face on cam, always working from home.

These guys have been coasting for a better part of 3 years now,
While the actual high performers have been living in stress, anxiety, and uncertainty.

Looks like there are major cuts on the horizon with the mood somber prior to holiday party, no one seems excited as they used to 4 years back,
Certainly not as excited as they were last year.

@sh - what do you mean? What was announced on 11/18? Your comment doesn’t make any sense.

There's definitely cuts planned for Q1 2026.

It's going to be sudden, a lot of focus is being put on engineering excellence and automation (AI) and we have already seen wonders it can do .

If you're not technical, you should be worried.
If you're technical and no one likes you, good luck.
If you're ESP, you cost them more than they want you now, good luck.

If you're IP, remote only, congratulations you'll be promoted the following performance cycle.

Does everyone remember the old posts from a few weeks ago? The Nov 18th being doomsday? You can scroll back on this site to see it.

What happened on those dates? Nothing that I heard of.

Just bringing that up to at least let people know, that nobody writing here knows anything definitively. Including me.

The writing is on the wall if you’re in the following roles (in my opinion):

Low grade level / experience level Scrum Master

Underperforming or non technical Squad Leader

Strictly a people manager chapter leader or scrum master chapter leader

All the org announcement references moving from smaller autonomous teams to larger engineering groups. That obviously means a need for less people managers which is in line with industry cuts recently. Now, some people leaders might find IC roles but they are also not approving ANY base pay raises for all those roles mentioned above, basically anyone in roles that fit in the Spotify model they are not investing further in. It’s generally not a good thing to be in a group that’s not being invested in.

I’m sure I’ll get tons of backlash here stating the base pay thing but come pay talks next week it will be confirmed. That being said if you’re a EP or really high performer your manager may go to bat for you and get you some base pay etc.

I’d expect cuts in late Q1 though - behind the scenes these changes take a lot of time and coordination.
