Honestly, I wouldn't mind it nearly as much if there was more than ONE freakin person on my team who came to the same office lol... My friend worked in Sales and I was always jealous of how close they all were. They all seemed to be friends, their groups/org always had fun little contests and d-mb things like that. My org? It's come in, do your sh-t and if you meet anybody else then cool. If not, also cool.

My issue is that of the 13/14 people on my team, literally ONE of them goes to my office. Everyone else is remote and/or live in different states. My job is very much a work from home type job. I'm not selling jack sht, it's not customer facing, and realisticxally the only people I talk to are those on my direct team + a handful of others on random teams

well, considering there is no career growth at Dell, going into the office is a complete waste of time and effort. If you really think about it, do you honestly think you'll still be there in 5 years. My guess is no, either you'll be gone on your own or let go.

I’m forced to drive 1hr30min each way to an office I never worked out of, just happen to live near. My manager is two time zones away, my team is spread around the globe. None of them are in my office. No one I work with on other teams works in my office. I literally spend 3 hours a day, five days a week driving to an office to sit in a cube by myself. And this is all in the name of “in-person collaboration” when in reality it’s to show up on a spreadsheet that gets reported to our SVP so our org meets a target percentage of office days. My manager could care less if I’m in the office, but my manager also isn’t willing to push for me to be changed to remote because senior “leadership” frowns upon this (and the “around one hour” claim which had me changed to on-site is total BS given my actual drive time). I’m no slouch, been with this company for a long time, worked my way up, have years of great reviews. I don’t need a nanny or be micromanaged to do my job.

So who does this waste of my time and money benefit? The company? Me? It’s so illogical I can only think they’ve done this to make employees miserable in hopes of attrition.

There is a big round mirror I can see when my boss is coming down the aisle. When I see him I put work on the screen. I’m the biggest scam artist at Dell. I get huge pay checks. What a life I have. BAHAHAHAHA!

I love going in office and seeing team. I live very close to office and I get to see boss every day. It is good for career.

I enjoyed reconnecting and catching up with coworkers, but that gut old after the first couple months. Nowadays I put in some noise cancelling headphones and ignore everyone while I watch YouTube between the 1-2 calls i have per day.

RTO compliance is a filter. Either you want this job bad enough to go into the office and do it or you don’t. Either you want to put yourself in a position to be promoted or you don’t.

In the past when we went into the office every day at Dell: we had personal space in actual cubicles with walls, cabinets, drawers, and even a trash can. There was an employee gym. The cafeteria had 3 times as many options. There was a Kenny's coffee shop in RR1. Stock options were common. There was an employee stock purchase plan at a discount. Layoffs happened but they were unusual events, not a standard part of the quarterly cycle.
