Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

RTO drives talent away

Based on what we've seen at other companies, or just using basic reasoning (something our leadership doesn't seem too familiar with), the best people are the first to leave. Why stick around when other doors are wide open for skilled, high-performing employees? Then again, maybe I’m wrong in assuming the C-suite actually cares about keeping talent onboard.

@dv You are an id--t or a troll. Just because you don't want to be in office doesn't mean you aren't actually doing work. Every supervisor I know even admits it's hard to get work done in office due to constant distractions.

Verizon is a legacy telecommunications company that doesn't need the best people. They need cheap & obedient bodies. Wall Street, Medicine, Science, and Technology needs the best people.

Verizon has never wanted or hired the best people. Cheap & obedient people without self awareness is necessary

RTO attracts the best talent, actually. You get people who are motivated and actually deliver results. Go in the office and be with your team.

RTO and actually work. No more mid day Costco runs and golf lessons. Too many people taking advantage. This will weed out the losers and the strongest and best will survive it.

It’s not just about the three days in the office, it’s about the requirement that you have to be in one of the three campuses for any new posting or backfill positions going forward. The campus are in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, New York City, and Irving, Texas. I’m not sure about Irving, but the other two are very high cost-of-living. They said there will be satellite offices, but have yet to been able to provide what locations as will be and whether future employment opportunities will be available.

All while the threat of our jobs going offshore continues to loom. Hard to continue to put in the 10-11 hour days and feel good about it anymore.

This isn't the 2022 job market. Any place you jump to will also likely have some type of hybrid arrangement (or move there eventually). AT&T requires 5 days in-office for example.

3 days in-office is about the best you can hope for if you are working for one of the bigger Fortune 500 companies.

In this job market, employers have the upper hand unfortunately.
