Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Firing Lots, Yet Hiring New Grads

So here, in the midst of tons of layoffs, all the new graduates have started working at Dell, including 32 in the highly touted Supply Chain Development Program (SCDP). We just got a few in our org! Get rid of the experienced (expensive) employees, and hire the cheap young ones and brainwash them into the "Dell Way" mindset. Typical! Hope they don't plan on a long career at Dell.

They have been doing this for years and years. I stopped helping train the new people that replaced my spouse and friends who were laid off. Idc to help replacements just cause they are paid cheaper and have no skills. Not my problem as an IC.

My account set was given to a new college grad and the customers email me all the time hating on them and how they dont reply to emails or call the customers back. And I give them the managers email to complain to them.

The funny thing is this newer generation smells bs from far away. They are less likely to conform than the older generations. Lots of new hires leaving after a few months

Young people also come with a blank slate, they have nothing to “un-learn”. Their lack of experience is an asset in that sense.

Young people are easier to manipulate and gaslight than experienced seniors.

I don't have a problem with dell hiring 25 year olds. The problem is they are firing competent & experienced people then hiring people that can barely go to the bathroom without someone holding their hands to replace them.

Lots of older people who have been around 30 years complaining about hiring 25 year olds...you know, the same age they were when they first got hired

@af

yup. it's called bottom recruitment:
you wont get the best and brightest, most will leave for better, but repeat enough and you can staff from year to year.

Yup and they're all from India. The grand scheme is to have just barely enough Americans to support existing contracts and offshore everything else.

It’s the Dell way. I only ever got reqs for juniors who I’d have to train up. They’d leave for better pay elsewhere after 2-3 years and then we’d get new juniors if we were lucky. Like clockwork.

I sometimes think we run a mediocre software boot camp at remedial pace for other tech companies (all of which are better) to take their pick of all but the dregs who make their career at Dell.

If you're 50 and above, hopefully you are done paying the mortgage, have at least a million in 401K, and all your kids have graduated college.
Even the young folks are having a difficult time finding a job even 1 or 2 years after graduating college. And with AI, there are fewer jobs. Sure they don't have much experience, but neither did we when we were their age. They also need to make a living and get some experience to put on their resume. Else, the only thing they will have to look forward to is the Fentanyl from China/Mexico that's ki-ling our young. So, give them a break and welcome they into your organization. Yes, they might take away your job, but you should have saved up to get you by until medicare and social security kick in. Good Luck!
