Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

The Godfather of AI

Geoffrey Hinton , the Godfather of AI thinks these jobs will not be available in two years:

  1. Customer Service and Call Center Jobs

AI chatbots and voice systems are improving rapidly and can handle many customer interactions without humans.

  1. Paralegals and Legal Assistants

Tools like GPT-4 and Claude can already draft legal documents, analyze contracts, and summarize case law.

  1. Radiologists and Medical Imaging Roles

Hinton has controversially said AI can do as well as, or better than, human radiologists in interpreting scans. He said:

“It might be better to stop training radiologists now.”

  1. Clerical and Data Entry Roles

Repetitive office work is especially vulnerable to automation with large language models and robotic process automation (RPA).

  1. Junior Programmers

AI can already write and optimize code. Entry-level software jobs are likely to be impacted first, especially for routine coding.

  1. Financial Analysts

AI tools can analyze earnings reports, market data, and even make predictions — potentially reducing the need for large analyst teams.

His Core Concern:

Hinton warns that the pace of AI development is faster than society or governments can adapt to, and the technology is not just about job loss — it’s about existential risk too.

He has also hinted at this grim scenario:

“We’re creating systems that can understand and manipulate humans better than we understand ourselves.”

That being said, yesterday during a L.I.V.E. call KG was going on about how we should be using AI agents to get rid of rote work. Yet data are so pinned down an agent is useless.

Humans have always engaged in resistance. Data silos were a form of turf war among humans. They’re becoming a we-pon against automation and being replaced by AI, a fu-k you to the management, a way to ensure Dell doesn’t succeed at AI. Did you expect people to just willingly give up their livelihoods?

@c7

Small minded, you need to do more research

“ They are just starting to figure out that AI can and will do anything to reach the objective. It has been caught lying.”

So it looks like managers and directors should be looking over their shoulders to see the GPTs can mislead and lie as well as they do.

If you’re worried about AI taking your job, then meet it head on. Read and study all you can on how it will change things. Be one of the survivors.

Those who use AI will replace those who don’t.

Agentforce replaces almost every tech job.

@a4+1jyfvn0ss Absolutely spot on. Where possible, I would be suggesting that people, not only invest in educating themselves in how to use AI, but also invest in those companies that are building the future that will disrupt your job (not Dell!) Use it as a hedge against any future displacement.

Side note: For those that have children, and i know this will divide opinion, the sooner you get them interacting with LLM’s the better. Just my 2 cents.

They are just starting to figure out that AI can and will do anything to reach the objective. It has been caught lying. I also don't understand how is it even possible to scale, as the demand for memory, compute and energy with sour exponentially to match the workload. I think we yet need to find out the most effective way to use this tech.

Sales roles at Dell are also undergoing a dual shift: reductions and consolidation of traditional roles, and investments in AI-aligned positions and capabilities. Success now hinges on the ability of sales staff to adopt AI tools, think consultatively, and build deeper relationships especially in complex, solution-driven environments. I think routine sales admin type roles and middle management are at high risk of elimination due to automation and consolidation.

AI is about to wipe out millions of jobs in the next 5 years. Almost half of all white collar jobs will be eliminated. By 2027 they are estimating that 83 million jobs could be lost globally due to AI and Automation. Likewise, Goldman Sachs believes 300 million full time jobs could be affected by AI. The job cuts rippling through the tech industry are not showing any signs of letting up. Dell is spending money and working on replacing certain jobs over the next 2 to 5 years.
