Thread regarding Ford layoffs

At what point did Ford become so broken?

Please don't say it's been broken for a while. I think we all can agree to that. Recently it feels it's been very broken. No more "One Ford" mentality.

Ford has been going downhill since old Henry left. The ford family is embarkation by the founder as he looked up to germanys leader and was an active anti s e m i t e himself. The financial leaders of his Tim (bankers) would not loan Henry money to start ford so he was p i s s e d

Are we sure about that?

Ford hired approximately 400 employees from BlackBerry Ltd. to bolster its connected-vehicle research, signifying a strategic move to acquire talent and expertise in software development.

After AM retired senior management reverted quickly to their old ways! Regardless I blame Bill Ford. He’s allowed this train wreck to happen and hasn’t done anything about it. Especially JF!! This tariff is really exposing all the jobs that have moved out of the country. As long as JF is there its not going to get better.

The Canadian federal government and the province of Ontario each pledged $102.4 million to support Ford’s initiatives, highlighting the collaborative effort to position Canada as a leader in automotive innovation.

March 30, 2017

Ford announced a substantial investment of C$500 million in Canada to bolster its research and development capabilities, particularly in vehicle connectivity and autonomous technologies.

Ford unveiled plans to open a new R&D center in Ottawa, focusing on areas such as infotainment systems, in-vehicle modems, gateway modules, driver-assist features, and autonomous vehicle technologies.

The company aimed to hire over 400 software and hardware engineers, with approximately 300 positions based in Canada. This move more than doubled Ford’s mobile connectivity engineering team, emphasizing the company’s commitment to advancing connected vehicle technologies.

The toxicity within the company worsened after AM left, and it only escalated as the promotion of socially inept individuals became more prevalent. The rise of these ‘social butterflies’ is perpetuated by others like them, leading to a cycle of inefficiency. As a result, we’re seeing an increasing number of redundant meetings that simply rehash the same talking points without accomplishing anything meaningful.

@a4+1jtm8qdbc when AM was in charge, the toxic culture got compressed like a big coil spring. then when he left, it all sprung back. boing! (that's pronounced: Boeing.)

The day Hackett announced that we stopped being a car company..

Lack of affordable transportation on dealer lots has driven away first time buyers.

@OP. After AM was fired, Fields tried to keep the momentum going. Things went to he!! really fast under the furniture guy. His tongue twisters, or should I say "brain twisters" were on par with those from damaged brain people. The 2019 layoffs changed the Ford culture forever, because the company didn't let go the bottom employees, as it was doing previously, but the best employees (just because they had better salaries and pensions). Doh! There is a reason why some GSRs had better salaries: they worked more and better than the rest. So talented people at Ford left to other companies, or hid their talent.

JF is even worse than Hackett, and that's something, because I never thought possible to find a worse CEO than Hackett. But here we are, where GSRs are to blame for not following the instructions from the C-suite, when the C-suite cannot make up their minds about what to do. We were making hybrids in 2018, in 2019 we no longer push for hybrids, but BEVs. Now we are doing hybrids. We removed the small ICE sedans because we are losing money on them, just to lose tens of thousands of dollars with each BEV, and now we are thinking of doing small BEV sedans. And like those, there are plenty more of examples. Please make it make sense.

It takes years to design and bring a vehicle to production, but the C-suite change their minds as often as they change underwear. How can we design anything, when the requirements are always changing, or worse, we don't even get them?

JF is a pathological liar and a narcissist. BF has some trauma of being inadequate, as it reflects in his desire to surpass Ol' Henry Ford. Since he cannot come with an idea from himself, he has been buying startups, from scooters to ride apps, trying to imitate Tesla, investing in Rivian, you name it. So now his legacy will be putting Alexandra Ford as the CEO of the company, if there is a company left at that time. The C-suite and the BoD suffer from dissociative disorder and psychotic delusions, because they refuse to see reality, they refuse to open their eyes and smell the sh-t that is up to our necks in this company. We keep hiring managers instead of engineers, we keep hiring rejects from other companies, even if they are not related to manufacturing (Peloton, Lululemon).

So GSRs are following Peter's genius comment in Office Space ... "It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care (...) That's my only real motivation is not to be hassled, that and the fear of losing my job. But you know, Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired."

Started in 1995 FORD 2000... As the the company went away from the very practices that saved the company in the early 1980s and the development of the management bench started to go down hill until it started to spiral out of control. Then came TVM .. cost vs quality and complexity out of control. Look at the launched since calendar year 2000.. Escape, Focus, all the way up into the present. Shortcuts taken .. best practices avoided. well the reputation of the brand was destroyed. So it began with Nasser ...

When they replaced engineers with marketing guys as CEOs. So many bs promises, vision for the "future", tech company trend chasing and less focus on engineering and execution. Every project starts out as a fad then fizzles out quickly as the company is being lead by bunch of ADHD people.

AM was totally focused on building quality, safe, affordable and profitable vehicles.

JF is focused on being a race car driver and a media star; in his 5 years as CEO he hasn’t paid attention to the basics of quality, safety, affordability and profitability. All of these basics have rapidly worsened under JF.

The rapid decline began with Hackett and has spiraled under Farley. As Warren Buffett has stated on multiple occasions you must be very careful about the people you spend time with, and bad behaviors from those in corporate leadership should be weeded out immediately as they will spread like wildfire across and down the corporate hierarchy.

The Alan Mulally era was a respite from the Ford toxic culture, as soon as he left Ford the toxic behaviors started ramping back up.
