Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

The 4 Main Pitfalls of WFH

  1. Remote work is bad for new hires and junior employees
  2. Workers admit that remote work (sometimes) causes more problems than in-person work
  3. Remote workers put in 3.5 hours less per day of work compared to in-person workers
  4. Productivity plummets on days when everyone is working remotely

I often travelled to OR to see my team. Half of them were never there.

Anyone so irresponsible that they can’t be trusted working from home should be fired.

TD engineers should be in the fab daily. Most of them don’t even know where their tools are even located and most definitely don’t even know how they work…. yet we’re totallllly gonna make a comeback! Get real.

All you other low impact / useless jobs (software, corporate services, etc) can WFH, sure who cares - you’ll all be laid off by EOY anyways. But anyone touching the fab should be onsite

Managers who don't manage, perhaps due to lack of marching orders, need to manage, and ensure you're putting in an honest days work, on something.

So should we go back to blue prints, slide rules, and drafting tables too? Seems like the products coming out of the fab are designed for work from home so we should use them for the intended remote work application.

WFH leads to isolationism and poor hygiene

CCG execs created and allowed horrible team structures, split across multiple countries. Until they fix that, RTO is not viable.

OP is probably one of these bathroom knob slobbers looking for a broader selection to…erm, eat.

This choice of pitfalls shows why WFH is the future

1 WFH is only a problem for new hires that are afraid of the phone. I suppose it does require more “hustle” to call someone than to walk over to their cube
2 sometimes. This is really 1) over again. You have to communicate deliberately. That can solve problems too. Knowing why you need to contact someone helps clarify your thinking
3 if remote workers can hit their output targets with 3.5 fewer hours then more power to them. Remote work can be managed
4 teams that work effectively can work remotely

OP I think your argument is “I haven’t seen effective remote work therefore it doesn’t exist”

But effective remote work is a choice just like not having enough office space to bring everyone BTO is a choice

Yes. The "slugs" and DEI crowd love WFH. Now that layoffs have occurred, can Intel now please just terminate poor performers and initiate RTO? Time to kickstart this company

@a4, you can spin it whatever way you want.
“trust me it’s much easier to skip work in the office” Right!!
What you are in the office is more visible, people see you, at home or wherever you might be not so much, whether you are working or not that’s on you. Good workers will always work and slugs will always be slugs but more visible in the office, maybe the slugs are crying the loudest.

#1 is too real, how the he-l do you train new engineers remotely? It’s such a pain and a huge blow to the onboarding process

You are right. The data is there. Done by universities not by some cry-babies. It shows that people are 10% more productive, better work-life balance, lesser pollutions, more dedication to work.
You can cry and cry, but it will give you nothing. If someone is not working on WFH, trust me it’s much easier to skip work in the office. That’s why people like you want RTO.

The data is there and no matter how hard the WFH crowd cries, it’s coming to an end. What Dandy Don Meredith use to say “Turn out the lights the party’s over”
