Dr. Thomas Caulfield will be the next Intel CEO

With today's February 5th announcement that Dr. Thomas Caulfield will step down as CEO of GlobalFoundries, without publicly stating his retirement, the question remains why he is leaving on his own terms, considering he is well-liked among industry peers and shareholders and there currently is only one job opening for the role of Foundry CEO open in the entire world.
On February 4th, our team of veteran Intel shareholders observed a highly unusual after-market stock purchase of 8,913,900 shares at a price of $19.29 per share, totaling $172 million. This is nearly triple the average daily volume of INTC. Such a large block trade is extremely rare for INTC and unheard of in the aftermarket.
This sum is strikingly close to the incentive-based stock compensation of $178.59 million Pat Gelsinger got offered in 2021.
Dr. Thomas Caulfield's extensive experience across the semiconductor industry makes him a strong candidate for Intel's CEO. His leadership at GF, culminating in a successful IPO, demonstrates his ability to navigate the complexities of the market. His operational experience, including leading GF's Fab 8 and his time at IBM's Microelectronics division, showcases his deep understanding of semiconductor manufacturing. His academic credentials, including a doctorate in Materials Science and Engineering from Columbia University, provide a solid foundation for his technical expertise. This combination of operational, financial, and technological experience, coupled with a strong academic background, positions him as a potentially ideal leader for Intel.
These two coincidences and the fact that he check marks every single metric needed for being Intels next CEO leads us to believe that Dr. Thomas Caulfield will be the next Intel CEO, and that the announcement is imminent.

Foundry is indeed the future simply because of its strategic nature for the country while product is a has-been with no recovery in sight. Don’t mean to be cliche but employees should plan their futures accordingly

He's ki-led tech dev at 2 foundries so far. What a track record. There's only one thing going for him...

Well, Caufield is no Pat Gelsinger, but he is probably better than BK.

If this is who the Board is choosing then it makes it even more obvious that Foundry is the future of Intel and one should expect to see the Product groups sold off or continue to be milked for cash flow.

The Board would never say this out loud, but IDM2.0 was probably always about how to transition the company away from x86, which no longer can produce enough wafer demand to keep Foundry at leading node.

This also will kick off more Foundry headcount reductions and shift to increased use of contract workers. Tariffs will help but the cost structure is still not competitive.

Two things: first, this is by no means confirmed. Someone did some excellent research and followed the money. Second, I see a lot of complaining about this guy, but what exactly do you expect Intel to do? They're desperate, and it's not like great CEOs are coming to Intel begging for a job. The pickings are slim. If he's even remotely capable of running a company, I'll take it. It's hard to imagine him being worse than the last few CEOs we've had. They got paid millions to continue Intel's slow decline into irrelevancy. Maybe he'll su-k, maybe he'll be great, but one thing's certain: Intel will absolutely fail if they don't do SOMETHING.

The more IFS/TMG employees complain about this guy... the more I think he's the right guy for the job. The current IFS/TMG employees are the ones that got Intel into the mess they are today (inefficient, picking the wrong technology, hiding inability to get 10nm and 7nm healthy, high cost, low yields, extremely expensive, overstaffed, slow to react).

Go read the GF board. Of course it biased negatively towards him, but the more telling thing is some of the comments. For example that he bent over, lined up and spread his butt cheeks for Chuck Schumer to have his way with him. As another commentator astutely pointed out when the comments turn to this and talking about your buttcheeks you have lost the high ground and respect of your employees.

No GF people. GF has bad reputation, it is horrible. It will be disaster for Intel.

The reason I left Intel was because the GF people came to my group and badly messed it up. GF people are high talkers and fakes.

Wow well he su-ks. I hope this is not true. GF employees have horror stories of this clown. He is not good at his job. We are in big big trouble if this is true.
