Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

GNT Thread

I work in GNT, below is what I’m hearing as of 10:30EST on 11/19. Please share what you are hearing in the comments.

  1. If your AD is getting cut, your ED will notify your AD first thing tomorrow morning, and then notify ICs on the AD’s team. Depending on your ED, they may give the AD the option to call ICs if the AD would like to make those calls themselves.
  2. If your AD is not getting cut, they will get a list after 5pm today and they will start making calls at 8am tomorrow. They may not send calendar invites, so don’t infer anything from that.
  3. Once everyone is notified, your AD (or ED if your AD is impacted) will set up a call with the survivors.
  4. This isn’t just layoffs, it’s also a major restructuring. Markets will be merged. I’m hearing that there will be restructuring/reorganization beyond markets being merged, but I haven’t heard any details.

This su-ks. It has been poorly managed. I’m sorry for everyone who will be impacted, and I’m sorry for survivors who are already spread thin and will be expected to take on inhumane levels of work. Each one of you deserves better than this. Be nice to your colleagues, give everyone a little extra grace, and make sure you have everyone’s contact info on your personal phone.

Allegedly, most or all AVPs are being demoted, which sounds like bad news for EDs/SDs.

@ap Yep, once the frontier acquisition is complete, redundant groups will be chopped. Keep in mind, they(frontier) have about 15k employees themselves, so it’ll be the second bloodbath.

OP here. My team finally got the direction to work from home tomorrow, but instead of sending a message to the whole team, employees and contractors got notified separately. Everyone was thinking they were in a unique group, but we all got the same instruction. I say this because your boss might be the same kind of weird as mine, so try not to jump to conclusions. This is all so needlessly d-mb.

NA checking in. Wasn’t told to stay home tomorrow. No communication today. Probably my planning on being home anyway, too stressful.

There may be a list finalized somewhere today but I saw a finalized list this past Monday and it was drafted the previous Friday. From what I'm noticing ADs did not have a direct impact on the decision. I would say that should be happening all year round not before riff time.

@ar Makes sense to work from home and I don’t see it as a good or bad sign. Everyone is on edge, so best to stay home.

Seeing lots of different things about the WFH orders in this thread. My team was told my our AD that we can work from home as he saw that other teams were doing it but the orders were never officially given to him. Said we can do it if we want to, not sure if that is a good or bad sign or doesn't mean anything

@am so if I wasn’t notify of anything that means I am in the let go list? My manager is out but my AD hasn’t communicated anything with me.

Our daughter, who works in Corporate, said there will be ANOTHER layoff in March, 2026. And.... the bleeding begins. I was caught in the 3rd or 4th layoff at Fortune 500 company in the mid 80s. It was mind, heart and soul crushing. However, my life took a completely different direction and I would NOT have changed one minute of my new "career".

@a6 OP here. How that part went down varies by market. In some markets, ADs were asked for input, in some they were not. Final decisions happened higher up. I don’t know at what level. I do know from watching many RIFs in the industry over the last few decades that when the RIF is this big, the decisions are usually made at the very top in consultation with an external firm that helps manage RIFs. Manager input is usually only a big factor in small RIFs. But nothing about this RIF feels typical, so who knows.

@OP thank you for the details. But, “ have everyone’s contact info on your personal phone?” I do but once I get some other business taken care of if I’m cut I’ll be deleting all of those contacts.
