Does age and tenure have anything to do with who gets picked for lay off. Wouldn't company have to pay more in severance if they let go someone with 25 years with the company as oppose to 6 years? So last in first out would save them more money?

I'm almost 60 and make six figures but I was hired to this job under dei and there are plenty of white boys on my team so I think I'm gonna be ok.
@av Ethernet is old! Ethernet came to fruition about 1970 to 1973... basically in 1973 it had a GPR. So now that you use Ethernet YOU must be OLD or young and don't know anything at all and rant on how smart you are in your own mind.
@ab well Christ when everybody on the team is over 40, do they all get a settlement???
@av that's some incredible deductive reasoning, genius
@at T1 is old so you are OLD
@ak As an old-timer I spend at least 15 hours a week hold the hands of the younger workers that know nothing and I have to teach them, OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN! Since the old GTE days I have seen it all! A few weeks ago I had to deal with T-1's and NONE of the new guys even knew what a T-1 is or in this case a DS3! They begged me for help so I had to actually do their job for them as the services were down for 72 hours! It took me 30 min to fix it VS their 72 hours. So please.... don't tell me about being old! I have forgotten more then you will ever known!
@am
one great thing about being a gramps (23 years with Bell/VZ) is having over $3 million net worth.
Make sure you invest wisely in yourself and the markets
The folks who have been at Verizon forever should be the first to go. They are holding us back. Difficult to work with. Close minded. Still pining for the “good old days.” And making great money largely because of their time on the payroll.
@a3 look up Verizon’s history on age discrimination suits. They fold like a house of cards.
If you decide that it is good time to retire then talk to your AD or SD and that will make their choices easier. I know some "old" people who volunteered to go out this time which is very courageous and smart cause they know they would be picked so it was like " you don't have to pick me I will see myself out"
No. Read the severance doc that is online and readily available. Age and Tenure mean almost nothing. THE ONLY THING that could cause them concern is riffing someone that 'old', meaning 60s... could be grounds for age discrimination given other factors.
Tenure (pay) > are you promotable > age all are key factors.
It’s cheaper to package someone out who makes more than to keep them on payroll in comparison to someone fresh.
It’s way cheaper to pay out someone who is making way more money one time than to continue to pay you out for however many more years you stay with the company.
