Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I can deal with a three-day RTO

It's not ideal, but I can manage it. The moment it becomes four or five, I'm out of here. I will keep my options open. I will save. I will network. I will do whatever it takes to be able to quit the second they announce anything beyond three days. And I know I'm not the only one who feels this way.

You really think that? Haahahahahah. Oh no. I'll stay as long as possible. But not to work. I'm what's considered actively disengaged. For those unfamiliar:

Actively disengaged employees are those who not only lack engagement but actively work against their company's interests, often through negative behaviors and undermining efforts. They feel resentful due to unmet needs and actively demonstrate this through negative actions and attitudes, potentially harming workplace morale and productivity.
Characteristics of Actively Disengaged Employees:

Negative Attitude: They often display a consistently negative attitude, undermining others, criticizing, and participating in negative workplace gossip.

Undermining Behavior: They may actively work to undermine projects, initiatives, or even their colleagues.

Reduced Productivity: Their lack of engagement can lead to decreased productivity and quality of work.

Absenteeism and Lateness: They may take more breaks, be absent more often, or disregard normal working hours.

Lack of Initiative: They show little interest in learning or taking on new challenges.

Toxic Influence: Their negativity can spread to other employees, negatively impacting team morale and performance.

Why would I ever part, with so much potential ahead of me?

Covid is over? Shut, you need to inform those amateurs at the Cleveland Clinic so they can be as smart as you

https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/21214-coronavirus-covid-19

"COVID isn’t “over.” It can still make you severely ill, cause symptoms that last months or years, and be fatal."

Glad you are here to set the record straight!

Thanks for sharing your agreement on the the 3 days RTO.

That deal is on the table for 3 1/2 years now and it sat there (unanswered) for too long, if you ask me. Time to say goodbye to shorts and flip flops and start dusting those slacks off ...

@bc they literally signed up to go to peoples house and install or repair. Never was it an ‘office’ job. No comparison.

@ek “ You mean the techs who willingly opted into a job that they knew had to be in-person?”

Work from home was an acceptable substitute for the raises that never kept up with inflation, and will never catch up. Saves us an unpaid commute, gas, and lunch.

Once WFH stops, unless they’re planning on catching us all up back to what our salary should be in REAL dollars, they can expect push-back and continue to act surprised that we are less than excited to RTO.

Want to threaten us that there are people lining up to take our jobs? GOOD LUCK. Let’s have our THIRD major brain drain and just remove all the people who make any differentiators possible that set us apart from other carriers. All the legacy features and products that other carriers have sunset long ago. We can watch the company bleed out and die a mid-sized consultancy that exists solely to coordinate vendors.

Execs should spend 3 days in a week working from the current long table set up. Loud, chaotic, smelly, dirty. Put back the partitions so people can work in peace. Forget desk phones - they are no longer allowed.

@bc

You mean the techs who willingly opted into a job that they knew had to be in-person?

Zero reason to align with that in a completely different job with completely different requirements. That's how the world works once you've outgrown a simplistic black-and-white worldview.

If you want to show solidarity, how about you work from a sewer or a sla-ghterhouse? Some people do that every day.

Or does your capacity to care about anyone else stop right at the point where you'd be inconvenienced? Funny how that works...

@OP

I enjoy connecting with my team in person, and I’m not against going in. But let’s be honest about the real drivers behind RTO at Verizon. This isn’t about collaboration—it’s about real estate liabilities, control optics, and trying to force culture top-down. Meanwhile, many execs aren’t even present unless there’s a PR opportunity. If leadership wants to rebuild trust, they should acknowledge that work has evolved—and lead by example, not by mandate.

It WILL be 5 days.

3 days is just the start. 6 months in it will become 5 days… If your plan is to leave when changed to 5 then just go now because it IS COMING. Trust that.

Listen. You don’t want to go in don’t go in. It’s not like if you quit you get benefits. Let them fire you. Wait a few weeks and collect and if ya get. I was pi---d about it but now they will get 40 out of me. No more logging in after hours. Remember your a number here. Who cares if this joint takes a nose dive. I hope it does. Then again I’m three years from retirement. You kids under 50 are cooked at this place. Some H1B will be taking your job soon anyway.
Hans is too busy meat riding Tom Brady on instagram. Why don’t you voice your opinion under his posts.

My group only worked in office 3 days a week for years prior to Covid. So not sure how they can justify more than that now

This 3 day RTO will be fiasco. I am happy to come back. Assign me a desk and phone. Give me a workspace that has some privacy for meetings/calls. Give me a locked drawer to keep some small personal items. If they really want people in the office, make it practical instead of dragging all my s--t eveyday I go in. They want the COVID cr-ppy office space arrangement to be the new norm while dragging you in for no value added reason whatsoever. A 3% raise, - that will cover it...!
