Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Is it true that badge swipes will stop being monitored at the end of 2025?

I heard a rumor that they plan to stop monitoring this. Not even sure why they ever monitored it to begin with but, it's Dell. Nobody knows why they do sht lol.

In my org at least, all the upper management cares about is badge swipes. How long you are there, number of days you go in, etc... doesn't matter as long as you swipe in a certain percentage every month/quarter. My manager basically said - without saying it directly - that if you want to just go "badge in" and go home, by all means do it.

I feel like the only reason they are monitoring badge swipes is to give reason to fire people in all honesty. They know that a LOT of people are going to resist this RTO and, technically by disobeying the policy you are breaking policy, which gives reason to fire someone after a warning or so. Or at the very least, put a red mark on your name for the next layoff session...

I did hear that they don't plan on tracking this by end of 2025, though. Could be very wrong but, I don't see much benefit in them tracking this type of thing forever. If I had to guess, they'll stop tracking after this quarter is over with. They put the scare into people and got what they wanted but, that's why their nPS score was DOGSHT.

Yes, the policy is that it is up to your manager, it's written out for you. For us, we are back to 2-3 days per week, 2-4 hours a visit and WFH the rest of the time this includes our exec leaders. Most of my execs stayed fully remote to begin with

They have been monitored for decades, we have always had the numbers for security reasons, we have to know who is what building at what time. It is the same system it has always been

Policy? Which one? Has it been made available anywhere? Nope! And one can't breach smth that does not exist.
Moreover, in some EU jurisdictions, the legal requirement is to make such document available.

I think the hard rule of five days a week (or four for some people working 10 hr shifts) will quietly be downplayed over the years with a return to the flexibility of one or two days a week at home. Or more.
But some vengeful manager will probably take advantage of it not being revoked to justify sc--wing some underling.

The fact that the parking lots in Hopkinton are only about 1/4 used on a Friday should show you that people aren’t badging in every day.

This metric will certainly be used as a tool to put people on a PIP. A certain VP with the initials of PP has taken great interest in this metric recently as many people were simply not coming in and is looking for answers from management as to why certain people are not in the office 5 days a week.

Ovens campus is also undergoing refurb to increase seating capacity CB2 so they will want full compliance to justify this cost.

@a3 It's automated yes but, why or how does that matter? People who live near an office just drive 10 mins to badge in, then go back home. He-l, even people who live an hour away do the same.
