Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Are the lists already prepared?

I’m just wondering if there’s any way to increase your chances of ending up on the layoff list aside from outright volunteering. I don’t want to be too obvious about it, since that feels risky and could get me fired instead of laid off. But if the list isn’t final yet, is there anything else that might help steer it that way?

@a3

Took me a year to get on the 'list.'

I was quit quitting for over 2y and then had to scale it up even more.

It’s not possible to accelerate the timeline unless your boss has already been asked to make cuts. In this climate all managers are clinging to all possible headcount as a seat warmer and buffer to protect them.

Is TSB (telecom) impacted? Heard that they got their first customer.

Depending on country the list is prepared 2-4 months prior notification. Ask your manager if you have a good relationship, if not - don’t ask, better quit quitting and wait.

"let your manager know you are willing to leave before your hardworking peers"

uh, no. bunch of self-serving gibberish.
you dont owe anything to your manager nor co-workers.

IMHO Depends on you manager, but if you want to get a package you should let your manager know you are willing to leave before your hardworking peers get let go. I wish I had told them sooner, instead I did the qq thing for 2 years and was not happy. What a waist of time!

Quiet quit. Log off at 5pm every day. They can sense what you are doing. Worked for me!

'The List' has always been ready. Everyone is on it. Ranking changes made when reviews and salary planning take place. Don't worry.

When this whole mishigosh started I told my boss if she had to cut I would volunteer- if the severance was sweet enough. So far her staff has been untouched but we’re ready. However if the severance su-ks I’m staying. If someone says I volunteered I’ll remind them of the words of our founder. “Remote work is the future! No, wait… everyone get back here!”

@a9

Yes. Do not show your cards ever. They are not your friends nor family.
Just quiet quit. Dell has no problem being unethical and low-budget. You do likewise.

Lists are already made. Your manager likely had nothing to do with it.

Don't give them any reason to fire you without severance. "Quiet quit". Vent on anonymous forums. DO NOT TELL YOUR BOSS.

They're making a list, checking it twice.. Going to find out who's all in or nice.

Lists are made already so a bit late to speak to your mgr about it.

It was a soul draining experience being there. the fake smiles. the make-believe we are working on something meaningful.

the dell-lifers. My gawd such an insufferable group. I rolled my eyes every time they talked like they were splitting the atom working there.

but worst: never seen such a collection of unimpressive leaders.
